2026 Season - Rnd 1 - Jan 20th

With the best attendance for a while, 13 club members turned out to set up the 112' long 6 lane sport track, with the power set at 11 volts. (Remember, this is an 'Old School' no-mag, low voltage, electronic controller-free zone.)

Support race:  Club Scalextric Porsche 911gt3's - slightly modified. 3 minute heats.

The  club cars were very closely matched and used IROC style, produced some very close racing that was reflected in the overall results. Mark J took first place by 1.6 laps from Graham, who was just two thirds of a lap ahead of third place man David. The rest of the field were a little more spread out but the tail enders, Wayne and James finished within a tenth of a lap, so it was close throughout.

Main Race: Owner/Driver Policar Maserati GT's upgraded with 20K rpm motors.

The main race gave the drivers six four minute heats against as many different drivers as possible. The Policar Maseratis, sourced 'box stock', came in a limited choice of colours so many had chosen to paint or decal their cars to make them more easily recognised in the heat of battle.

Previous meetings had shown the standard motors to be a bit underwhelming on the big track, they are supposed to be 'home racers' after all, so the club funded  and supplied upgraded Pendle 20k motors, some of which were fitted at a 'workshop' earlier in the evening.

Racing was fast and furious with Graham's Coca Cola car taking the win over David and Mark J.

With strict rules as to what COULDN'T be done it was surprising to see such a disparity between the top seven and the six making up the rest of the field. Still, a good move upgrading the motors for the big track, making the racing much more enjoyable.

2026 Season - Rnd 2 - Feb 20th

Numbers were decimated by family commitments , re-arranged Christmas stage plays, a reunion dinner and illness. (The club members wish all the best to James for a speedy recovery.)

Nevertheless the meeting was still viable, with eight members making it for round two of the 2026 season. They just had to be quick on their feet to cover race control, all the marshalling points AND take photos.

Support: Club Scalextric Karts.

First off were the Karts and as with any open wheeled racers, with a lot of drifting there was the inevitable tangle of wheels. Shaun weathered the storm best, cutting through the carnage to win by half a lap from Mark R, with Vic a further lap back to complete the podium.

Mains: Owner/driver  Sports GT cars.

There were many really fast cars on show, from various manufacturers including NSR, Slot.it and Thunderslot.

Racing was close across all the heats, Mark W eventually coming out the runaway winner with his blue Thunderslot, four laps ahead of David in second spot with Vic in third less than half a lap down and chasing David hard.

They think it's all over! It is now. Mark W's winning Thunderslot.

2026 Season - Rnd 3 - Mar 7th

Best attendance for a while - perhaps it had finally stopped raining?

Fourteen racers turned up including new guest Chris F'. He was to have a slight advantage having never run the track in the usual direction, so didn't get suckered into accelerating into the bridge wall, rather than thinking he was on the main straight.

(The long track had been set up to run in the reverse direction for this meeting.)

Support race. Club Ninco McLaren F1's

Raced for the first time these 'new to the club' old Ninco McLaren F1's were all set up by Vic', with new braids, lead wire and tyres with the magnets removed and small lead weight added.

As usual there were six heats for each driver. With evenly matched cars racing was very close. This was where Chris showed the advantage of NOT having run the track before as several of the more seasoned drivers forgot to turn left over the bridge, muscle memory telling them they  were running flat out down the main straight. Coming home in first place was local boy Mark J, followed by Mark R less than a third of a lap down, Ben taking the third step of the podium. At his first meeting Chris missed that step by just a tenth of a lap!

Main race. Owner/driver DTM and Saloon cars.

As Brian had to leave it was down to thirteen for this class, the one that really turned the established order on its head.

All of the four minute heats were 'fast and furious', with those running Slot-it type cars winning most of the races. Having run the previous class in 'the wrong direction' all club members were now fully up to speed.

However, it was one of the more recent members, Ben, who led the pack home closely followed by newcomer Chris. First visit and straight on the podium! Good going.

Another 'recent-ish' member, Graham, has also worked his way up to the head of the field of late. Not long ago a mid-field runner he put another podium place on his score card. It's getting to be a regular occurrence now.

Nearest long established member was Vic' in fourth place and rather surprising to see, all three Mark's finished mid-field. Still, got to give the new boys hope, eh!

2026 Season - Rnd 04 - Sat April 4th

I'm lost for words - literally. In changing email providers, although I managed to save the pic's I was sent, somehow the words themselves fell through the gap between the two. Anyway...

Being the Easter Bank Holiday weekend numbers were decimated, dropping into single figures.  However 'Nine had fun'.

First up were Shaun's 'Club' Moto GP Bikes. Few had seen them, let alone raced one in anger but the results were surprisingly close, the win going to Shaun from Mark J by just a tenth of a lap. Vic came home third one and a half laps down but all did really well in such an unexpected and 'off the wall' class.

Back to more familiar territory, a club class but with a difference again. The 'club' cars were mandated Polistol Maseratis - sourced by the club but owned by the individual members. This was fiercely competitive, with a tie at the top, Bill and Mark W finishing on 107.7 laps each. However it decides, Race Coordinator gave the win to Bill. Mark J took third spot with Vic fourth. There was another tie on 101.1 for fifth and sixth, again, RC awarding the higher spot, this time to Shaun.

With the small turnout a third class was squeezed in, Nascar and American Muscle. Always a favourite. This one threw up the third different winner, this time Mark W leading Vic home by a third of a lap. We then had some new names, Larry in fourth and Chris F in fifth, Bill, Shaun Alan and Wayne filling out the field in that order.

Fewer faces but more races!

Sorry, I was emailed the classes and a great photo skit of the American space jaunt - but I'm afraid they disappeared into a black hole between my new and old email services.
