Might as well start a grump thread as everybody else seems too happy at the moment.

Subscription TV channels, or more specifically, channels you pay extra for in order to access exclusive content who then put it on free to air TV. I subscribe to Premier Sports so I can get full live USA coverage of all NASCAR races. They also have a Free to air channel and have recently started putting some of the races on there live as well. I pay for the stuff so why are they giving it away for nothing? I should be given a part refund for those races as I have paid for something they have given away to non subscribers.

I notice Sky has started doing this as well. I don't subscribe to Sky Sports F1 but, if I did, I would be absolutely livid that they have also shown the last two races live on Sky 1 so people with a basic subscription get exactly the same coverage as those who have paid extra .

I was lucky enough to have Scalextric in my childhood and now in middle age, a wife who doesn't mind me taking slot racing to a whole new level.  My analogue experience reached its peak with my Race of Champions Wembley layout, after which I was seduced by the simulation potential that digital offers.  I am often labelled a pedant due to my desire to recreate many of the features of 1:1 motorsport at 1:32 scale.

My portable layouts have allowed me to take slot racing to the public, raise awareness of our hobby and some money for good causes too.

Hi guys, I really like the forum layout and design.
Just a suggestion, if its possible to do with the forum software.
On each post I make, there is an option to subscribe/get notifications in various ways, I feel that would be better as a global option save having to do it each post. You can always have a simple unsubscribe button on the thread if we no longer wanted notifications for that one ?

Hi Guys,
As this Forum is presently a small gathering, I thought that I would let on about the tracks that I am making for this year's Slot Car Festival in May.

As you are well aware, I am a digital racer and one of the bugbears of digital racing has to endure is brief short-circuits as the braids cross over lane-changers and breaks (gaps) in the track if using Scalextric type plastic track pieces. Too many of these can disrupt the workings of the chips firmware.

My plan is to separate to change the plane of the electrical rails. Instead of having the right rail as +ve and the left as -ve, I am making them both +ve and inserting the -ve rail into the bottom of the slot. This orientation has the benefit of having everything at track level of the same polarity so the flippers in the lane-changers do not need to be electrically isolated. This is important because when changing lanes, the polarity of the flipper alternates depending upon direction of travel. Further, it means that the flipper will not be a massive dead spot slowing down passing cars or becoming a place where beginners always manage to stall their cars.

This should also have quite an impact on analogue slot-car rallying because only one slot is needed with a single lane loop at each end to be able to drive in either direction on the main part of the track.

That's all for now but I will be posting further details and pictures as and when I am able.

Cheers - Greg

I built these 2 tracks to take to Gaydon, they both fold down to go in our small hatchback car.

They were 'tested' in the garden whenever we had a sunny day!

The joys of living here! Four acres with half given over to supplying our fruit, vegetables and some meat.

Ronnie announce that the freezer was getting a bit full so I reduced the contents by several kilos and made some Raspberry jam. I feel some more rice pudding coming on. Nothing like it with jam stirred into it Bigsmile

Another few kilos to do today!!

I'd like to ask your opinions on something which I can't make my mind up about.

I have hundreds of slot track plans, and I have hand coded web page designs to display them. The only thing is I did all of that long before the recent problems we've had with the owners of SFI, and long before we thought of setting up this forum. So none of them match up in any way to the general design of this site.

I don't know whether to convert them to something that looks like it fits in, or whether it's fun to have something different. The original designs are kind of eccentric, and I'm not sure whether they'll just leave people feeling confused.

Perhaps I could show you a couple of examples...

This is one that I've gone some way to converting to fit in with this site. ..

https://slotracer.online/plans/j-trak/

And here's the original...

https://slotracer.online/plan/j-trak/

The question is would the second one leave you wondering what on earth is going on, and why you're suddenly viewing what looks like a completely different website, or is that okay?

I have a couple of other examples, which I don't know whether to convert or not. This one is a story about WW2 airfields and how they affected motorsport in Britain.

https://slotracer.online/plan/racing-greens/

And this one is about current F1 tracks, and particularly the 2018 season, when Lewis Hamilton matched one of my heroes Juan Manuel Fangio.

https://slotracer.online/plan//f1-2018/

The actual content will be much the same whether I convert them to fit in with the site or not. But the question is, if you saw a link for the original stuff and clicked on it, would it be a bit weird in an interesting way, or would it just be weird in a  confusing, WTF sort of way?

All opinions welcome, and thanks for reading this.

This message will self destruct before the doors to this place are officially opened.

I'm delighted to be here on Slot Racer Online. Looks like it will be a great place to come for invaluable information and inspiration. I certainly hope to contribute some HO stuff and updates about our HO and Scalextric digital racing in Worthing...

And maybe a few pics like this one from the DiSCA Le Mans 24 hours last weekend...

In the meantime I'm enjoying looking around. Jason's F1 section is, just, Wow!   Some people have been busy Wrench
