Our second HO race of the year is also a chance to celebrate the 14 birthday of the club. It all started on 3 February 2010.
Keith and Deborah have chosen their four Nascar tracks for 2024...
And we start with a nice big 'intermediate' oval, loosely based on the Milwaukee Mile...
It should be another classic WHO Nascar night - all the regulations can be found on our website here: http://www.whoracing.org.uk/nascar_rules.html
I bought this on a whim, simply because it's the only Fabia Technitoys did close to the original factory livery. It's had very little use. Everything is intact, there is no damage. The rear tyres are 40a urethane copies of the originals. As far as I know it was never available outside Spain. The magnet is still in place (which is unusual for my cars!). It no longer fits my collection criteria and hasn't been used for well over a year, so it really needs a new home.
I don't remember how long ago I bought it, but would have been pre-Brexit. Something tells me I paid north of £90 including shipping.
No idea how to value it, so with my tongue firmly in my cheek shall we say £55 posted to the UK - but I'm open to sensible offers.
I've tried quite a few "superglue" variants over the years, from the original Loctite product to ones that claimed to be better and were anything but.
These days I usually use either plumber's solvent weld or araldite, depending on what I'm actually gluing.
I've recently bought some 3d printed stuff which "needs to be superglued" (that's what the seller said......). When I queried which one he replied "Normal superglue". Very helpful, I don't think.
Which "superglue" products to you fellas recommend?
Thanks,
Stuart.
Hi Guys,
Ok so all the foundation work for the MPD was completed yesterday. Things like RTOS, bootloader, DFU, parameter library and Scorpius protocol have been completed and debugged.
As some of you might know the MPD prototype has been designed and built to run on Carrera, Scalextric, Ninco and SCX systems.
Yesterday I received an email from John our engineer with the latest firmware release V13.0. It contains amongst other things the Carrera motor drive completed. We are glad to say we were able to implement this quickly and without any debug required. So our Carrera commitment has started there is no turning back. Next will be implementing the lane change code.
There is much planned for Carrera users. The plan is to make all the Scorpius protocols or as much as possible available to the Carrera community.
Some of the things coming are:
Worlds first 2.4ghz wireless car chip to be 100% Carrera compatible.
A 2.4 GHz controller based on the Scorpius controller using 100% Carrera protocol.
A new revolutionary highly functional dual Comms system called Nitrous where the Scorpius controller will talk to both the Carrera CU and MPD chipped car simultaneously. This allows all existing CU and RMS functions to operate as per normal and allows us to get a lane change command to the lane changer via rails as per the true Carrera protocol without using rubber bands and work arounds.
The possibilities here for the Carrera community are mind blowing. Imagine telemetry, accelerator and Back EMF based functions like our new virtual Dyno, Scorpius and SSD compatibility and more for Carrera users?
The project continues……
Rick
Does anyone have an SCX mk2 Escort they no longer use? I'm after one to add to my projects pile. Not bothered which livery, not bothered if the car has damage or missing parts.
I'm not expecting to get it for free, but I'm too tight to pay over-inflated eBay prices (as an example, a not particularly good condition one sold last week for barely a tenner less than Roger Barker is asking for brand new ones!).
Thanks,
Stuart.
Race reports - 4th January 2024 - Club Revoslots plus Grand Prix & PreWing F1
.
A new year and a new race calendar.
The race calendar has a couple of new additions for 2024, one was trialled last week with the Targa Florio and looks like a good idea and will be repeated again 3 times. The other is a brand new idea with the focus on fun rather than racing…TV & film cars which is on the calendar 4 times.
.
Heats tonight were 5 minutes, 2 drivers per race.
.
CLUB REVOSLOTS + club controllers
.
These are remarkably good for a club car series, the tyres have superb grip on our track and are now in their 3rd year of use with little signs of wear.
.
The closest race was the final one, Heat #6 as Brian (Blue Viper) lapped Mike B (Red Porsche) once.
.
Kev, Brian & Mike B managed their best score with the yellow Marcos whilst Ed did best with the Viper.
.
Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Brian & Mike B.
.
.
.
GRAND PRIX & PRE-WING F1
.
Now for a change of pace as these have to be driven carefully…as the marshals found out!
.
Heat #2 was good viewing, Brian’s Vanwall needs new tyres and doesn’t look as stable as usual which meant Ed had a chance with his Lancia Ferrari D50…it was close…another lap and he would have caught the Vanwall as that gap was quickly closing as you will see in the video.
.
Brian was involved in another close race, Heat #6, the last race of the evening, Vanwall in the Yellow lane chasing Mike’s Connaught in the Red lane, whilst not as close and exciting a finish as Heat #2 was, nonetheless close enough with the Connaught winning by just under a lap.
.
Kev’s hefty Alfa Bimotore must be wearing those tyres down but it rarely falls off the track, had a best run in Heat #3 in the Yellow lane.
.
Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Brian & Mike B

--------------------------------------------
Next week is Small Sports/Saloons followed by F1 (including Classic F1). As Brian was asking when we’re next racing Classic F1’s maybe we’ll see his Lotus 72 (or is it a Ferrari 312 B2) in action!
I want to have a bash at resin-casting some small parts - specifically Scalextric Escort bumpers and a few different variations of wheel inserts.
Is it preferable to pre-colour the resin, or airbrush the finished article?
Thanks,
Stuart.
The East Lancashire Slot Racing Club is now open for racing every Tuesday evening. Born from the ashes of the Pendle Club following the need of the shop for more storage space, the new club has a hard core of members from the old. The track is new 4 lane Policar on a firm permanent wood base and measures 104 feet.
Visitors and potential new members very welcome. The first nights racing is free, and we have spare cars available for use.
The venue is in an entertainment complex 'The fun House' (formerly Earnies's) in the centre of Colne. There is plenty of free parking (after 6) adjacent to the venue.
The club room is at street level and wheelchair friendly. There are cafes and toilets on site.

After almost a year of work we can finally say that the latest GT3, from the worlds smallest slotcar company, will be shipping to you as soon as the middle of January.
The car is industrially 3d printed using SLS technology, allowing for near isotropic mechanical properties, good detail and an incredibly durable body.
Apart from rigourous on-track testing, advanced FEM simulations have been used to simulate real-world scenarios to get a better understanding of how the car functions under load, and to optimise movement and flex for maximum performace.
The car will be available with three different motor configurations, a 15° anglewinder FK-180, a sidewinder FC-130 and a sidewinder FF050. Original offset will be 0.80 mm, but almost anything can be made on request.
There will be two differet stiffnesses of chassis available, a softer white chassis, and a stiffer glass-infused grey chassis. All cars will ship with the softer chassis, and with the optional stiff chassis soon available through shapeways, alog with one especially designed for digital racing.
The cars will all be sold as unpainted kits that require some sanding and filling to get optimal painting results. Apart from a complete body the kit includes one chassis, one motorpod, wheel inserts and two guides. Total price is expected to be around 65€, with worldwide shipping at 15€
Due to largely unkown production quantities and lead times of 5-7 days, it´s best for everyone interested to send an email expressing interest to jona@201slotcars.se to guarantee one when they are ready.
With kind regards

The year might only be days old but Scott has already been spontaneous shopping for shop-themed slot cars - it was a bargain, apparently.
Nick has been repurposing a Scalextric Porsche: is his love affair with old Subarus over?
We pose the BIG questions: where have all the Kaliber Sierras gone and are the latest Scalextric releases both pink or not?
Elsewhere, Scott extols the simple joy of running laps with some old cars and Nick, having done so well, couldn't help himself talking about Slot Rally GB, but only at the very end.
But whatever you do, don;t take tax advice from us.
