News Bury St Edmunds Slot Car Club
#31

Good Morning Fellow Bury St Edmunds Slot Car Club Members.
So we are all stuck at home and I imagine we are fiddling with cars etc. I am going to take this time to lay down a permanent Digital layout. See pic of first "panel".
The idea is to lay down 5 x 8'x4' MDF panels and create a F1/GT circuits.(see layout plan)
I will eventually invite you all down for a race session. In the warehouse unit next to me we have a Micro brewery making great beer, so refreshment at hand in their Tap bar.
However I need some advice!
I have purchased a separate power supply to make sure I get enough power to all parts of the track. My query is this:
1. What is the best way to connect to the track? Is it direct soldering?
2. What core cable should I use? Need to purchase the most suitable cable and I don't really know the best option.

Any advice gratefully accepted and I hope you all are well.
Thanks Max

Sorry these weren't more timely. They were sent to me by Vic King, a member of the Bury St Edmunds slot car club, almost exactly a month ago but are still relevant and well worth showing.

As the Mini 7even cars scream towards the corner .......

... the marshals are determined to get the message across!

Although the photos are a bit of fun there's a serious message here: As Lockdown eases we still need to help ourselves and the NHS.

Be sensible and - Keep your distance!

A big THANKS to all the selfless NHS staff.  Thumbup

From an old B St E SCC website, with their permission.

Here they are, pre-2011, at the Fornham St Martin Community Centre, with a track that looks as if it had to be assembled from scratch each club night. At a guess the upper two photos are earlier in date, with a lot of the accoutrements being dropped over time to make assembly and dis-assembly quicker - but I could be wrong.

Not sure how long they were here but I have heard talk that they were located at the British Sugar plant in Bury St Edmunds at some point prior to this.

Top left, Shaun sat at race control, with possibly one of the two Marks barely visible at the far end of the drivers rostrum?

Top right, Rally cars, which are still a popular mainstay of their classes at the Great Whelnetham site a good nine+ years later.

Below, a much tidier, more business-like (later?) set-up.

Bottom left, Could that be one of the Marks in light blue on the right?

Bottom right, Maybe Bill here, centre-right, in the blue top?

2011 - and at a secret location somewhere in Suffolk .......

.... a new six lane Sport Track track takes shape, prompted by a move to bigger premises at Greater Whelnetham ....

and it's HUGE!                                                                                                                           Crafted by Mark and Vic ......

... using hand drawn plans and a pile of track.                                                            The first trial assembly at the hall.

The new track made its debut in December 2011, at a shakedown meeting in preparation for the 2012 season.

An overall view.                                                                                   Hammerhead to Gambon - from centre left of first pic'.

A car at the end of the main straight - bottom left of the above pic'.                                       Cars at the start, just after Bacharach Bend - top right of first pic'.

Chicago - bottom right of first pic'.                                                                                      Gambon to Hammerhead. Drivers would be to far right.

Start line after Bacharach - the last right turn.                                           Esses, looking right, towards Chicago - bottom of first pic'.

'Inside' view of bridge - Gambon in the background.                                    Bentley hairpin - middle right of first pic'. Start line & Bacharach to the right.

Don't know how this will look but I've been working on a track plan for weeks using photos taken on club nights.

Hmm? Disappointing after all that work. Tappingfoot

Thanks to JasonB Wavegreen for loads of help, guidance and support to get me out of the basement and on to the first rung of the UR3 novice ladder.  Thumbup
