John went into hospital for treatment for an existing condition. I believe he had kidney problems. Unfortunately he contracted covid while he was in hospital and didn't recover. He will be greatly missed at our vintage nights where he was always happy to give advice and share his knowledge with all of us.

As Tony says John was a great guy .a really good racer ,who would share his great wealth of slot knowledge, with anyone .but above all a really nice guy who will be much missed buy all who knew him.especially on our vintage nights as it won’t be the same without him hounding me round every lap,if heaven has a slot car track.god wants to know how he gets them cars to go that quick.show them the way round mate.

We were a bit short on numbers last week but maybe that was no bad thing as the electrical gremlins struck again but this should be fixed on Saturday so hopefully we will have a trouble free evening on Tuesday when we will be racing :-
1/24 Scale George Turner Minis with resin or Richard Mack chassis
and
Slotit Group C
Practice from around 6pm and racing starts at 7.30pm
New members welcome but it would be helpful if you contact Barry first so that we can arrange loan cars and a controller.
First visit is free then race fees are £5 per night.
Contact details and rules/regulations are on the club website
https://www.southendslotclub.co.uk/home.html
If you want any further information please contact Barry via the club website or myself by PM on this forum.

Tony, good set of club activity reports, thanks.
The plan is that I'll return to Blighty Friday next week, and as quarantine is no longer in fashion, I should be able to race on the 24th.

Thanks Joel. Hopefully we can persuade a few more people to dip their toe into club racing.
Barry has just updated some of the pictures on the club cars pages on the club website here
http://www.southendslotclub.co.uk/clubcars.html
so that it now shows members latest cars.
A slightly better turnout saw a great night of racing last Tuesday with some very close battles in the Mini heats and only about 17 laps over 4 heats between our newest member and the winner in the Slotit Group C class with two racers achieving over 100 laps.
This week we will be racing
Scratchbuilt Saloons
and
Modified GT (our fastest class)
As usual rules are on the club website http://www.southendslotclub.co.uk/home.html
Practice from around 6pm, First race 7.30pm
New members always welcome but it would be appreciated if you contact Barry (contact details above or on website) so that we can try to sort you out the loan of cars and a controller.
First night is free then £5 per race night.
We will also be holding an informal practice session this Saturday from 10am to try to sort out the last of the system bugs from our long break due to Covid so if you can't come along on Tuesday you are welcome this Saturday.

I couldn't attend club this week but I am sure there must have been the usual good racing.
Our next club night is Tuesday 31st August when we will be racing
Formula 1 1966 to 1985
and
Modified NASCAR
Club rules for above and all our other classes are on the club website Southend Slot Racing Club and the club cars pages showing photos of members cars have been updated recently as well.
Practice from around 6pm, First race 7.30pm

A really good attendance for our F1 and NASCAR night with some good close racing and close overall results in both classes. Our lap times also seem to be improving after some track work to repair the adverse camber that had crept in on one bend over the years.
This week we have both ends of the speed spectrum with the rather less frenetic
Ninco Classics
and the fast and frantic
Racer Sideways Group 5
Club rules for above and all our other classes are on the club website Southend Slot Racing Club and the club cars pages showing photos of members cars have been updated recently as well.
Practice as usual from around 6pm, First race 7.30pm

After a long break due to Covid rules we are relaunching our vintage race nights with a "Run what ya Brung" event for both 1/32 and 1/24 cars on Friday 17th September.
This is a fun event with no pressure to be competitive so please bring along anything vintage that you want to run ie Cox Monogram, Revell, Riko, Dynamic, MRRC, period scratchbuilds etc.
There will also be loan cars available.
Practice from around 6pm and racing from 7.30pm.
New members always welcome on any club night (particularly those who want to race vintage).
First night is free then £5 per race night.

Apologies for the lack of posts for the last 8 weeks but I will try to post regularly again.
It seems 3 litre era F1 and modified NASCAR are popular classes as we had another good attendance of 11 racers and some close racing last week.
So - we are back where I left off a couple of months ago as this week we are firing up
Ninco Classics (for the final time as the class rules will change for 2022)
and the fast and frantic
Racer Sideways Group 5
Club rules for above and all our other classes are on the club website Southend Slot Racing Club and the club cars pages showing photos of members cars have been updated recently as well.
Practice as usual from around 6pm, First race 7.30pm

New rules and classes for next year were discussed at AGM but the details haven't been finalised yet.
We have started to hold test sessions on a Sunday to give members a chance to try out set up changes. At the moment it looks like it will be one Sunday a month but I will post the dates here.
Usually we only get a few members attending test sessions so If any newcomers feel a bit daunted by jumping straight in on a club night attending a test session might be a good way to find out what club racing is all about and members would have more time to explain what you need to get started.
If you want to attend a session please contact Barry via the club website with the date of the session and we will arrange for you to be able to try cars and a controller during the session.
