Your opinions please
#1

I'd like to ask your opinions on something which I can't make my mind up about.

I have hundreds of slot track plans, and I have hand coded web page designs to display them. The only thing is I did all of that long before the recent problems we've had with the owners of SFI, and long before we thought of setting up this forum. So none of them match up in any way to the general design of this site.

I don't know whether to convert them to something that looks like it fits in, or whether it's fun to have something different. The original designs are kind of eccentric, and I'm not sure whether they'll just leave people feeling confused.

Perhaps I could show you a couple of examples...

This is one that I've gone some way to converting to fit in with this site. ..

https://slotracer.online/plans/j-trak/

And here's the original...

https://slotracer.online/plan/j-trak/

The question is would the second one leave you wondering what on earth is going on, and why you're suddenly viewing what looks like a completely different website, or is that okay?

I have a couple of other examples, which I don't know whether to convert or not. This one is a story about WW2 airfields and how they affected motorsport in Britain.

And this one is about current F1 tracks, and particularly the 2018 season, when Lewis Hamilton matched one of my heroes Juan Manuel Fangio.

The actual content will be much the same whether I convert them to fit in with the site or not. But the question is, if you saw a link for the original stuff and clicked on it, would it be a bit weird in an interesting way, or would it just be weird in a  confusing, WTF sort of way?

All opinions welcome, and thanks for reading this.

This message will self destruct before the doors to this place are officially opened.

I find the original format for the track plans and J track fine.

Seems an awful lot of work converting that stuff when I'm sure there is plenty more that needs your attention at the moment.

I don't know if it's necessary or possible but perhaps enter that section through an 'introductory portal, 'you are now entering the twilight zone' or something? A bit of fun but as I said, not really necessary.

I've taken a look at the other examples, the Airfield circuits and F1 and again, I find them fine.

Too homogenous could get dull.

I like the 'corporate look' of the new site but variety is the spice of life so different zones with different looks would add zest - but that's just my opinion.

I think they look brilliant. I stumbled across the 2018 F1 section when I was first browsing the new site and was extremely impressed. In my opinion, it would be invaluable to have more content presented like this - more website than forum. That’s something that would make Slot Racer Online stand out and offer something different, perhaps?

It doesn’t bother me that the format of some ‘specialist’ sections might be different - I think that actually defines them as special sections.

Agree with everybody else, looks fine and why do extra work when there is no need? I wish I had 1/32 of your design talents because the layout of this site is absolutely brilliant.

Thank you all, very kind.

What sort of blooming forum is this though? Every body agreeing? That can't be right. Tappingfoot
