They're up to W7 already? Hmm.
I'm not convinced that my Commodore 64 can handle W11.

Apparently it's not possible to run any windows OS on a C64
So now you finally tell me?
I was hoping to upgrade from monochrome to 16-colour CGA monitor and graphics card. Oh well.

As a Mac user from the time they were introduced, it has always been the case that updates had been thoroughly checked out - had to get past Steve Jobs - and they always worked perfectly.
Nowadays, every release is immediately followed by security updates and fixes. I can understand the need to counter new threats but sometimes it's the next day.
And now, on top of it all, I'm stuck with a constant reminder to update to the new all singing, all dancing version that integrates AI into the system. I don't want, like or need any help with using my computer ta! The whole idea of an assistant to open a prog or write a letter seems to further diminish my engagement with the world. I thought that my brain was supposed to do the heavy lifting but it seems that I am supposed to just sit (as in 'sometimes he sits and thinks and sometimes, he just sits')
As far as the site is concerned, I have had just one event. Otherwise it's been fine.
Gordon, you can still turn it off, although on Ios27 its a bit more complicated. If you turn it off on iOS 26 it's just one toggle:

Hi Henk,
Yup,
I have it all turned off on Tahoe. But it's the assumption that it's an improvement and that it will make life easier that gets me. It will make life lazier it seems to me as does so much of life these days.
Have you read The Marching Morons by Kornbluth? We are headed in that direction at top speed. A few at the top of the heap and the rest just consuming rubbish, producing nothing with brains disengaged. They might as well be the batteries in the Matrix.

OT: More and more websites protect themselves with a frontpage where you have to tick a "I am human" box, f.e. Pendle.
Maybe it could be implemented here as well? I don't know if there's costs involved but I gladly contribute.
Of course there will come a moment where the AI bots are able to hack this..

A new problem.
Apparently Henk posted a reply 38 minutes ago but when I open the page, I just see my last post from much earlier and his is nowhere to be seen!
