Race report and results - 7th May 2026 -
.
A good turnout tonight with seven of us racing but we did have another couple of club members turn up before racing but they left early.
.
Saloons
.
Six Prostock Class cars (alphabetic order)
Heat #3 was the closest race tonight as Brian, Chris & Mike all finished within a lap of each other with Chris’s Honda crossing the line first.
.
A couple of Broadspeed Jags raced by Dave & Mike, Dave’s car getting a better result in Yellow lane but Mike’s was better in Red & Blue lanes.
They did lineup side-by-side once, Heat #5 with Dave in Red lane and Mike in the middle Yellow lane.
.
Paul considered racing a police Rover SD1 in the TV/Film event later in the evening but chose to race it in Saloons. A best result in Blue lane finishing 2nd against Chris & Dave.
.
Brian & Kev racing SlotIt Opel Calibras, nice running cars that always go well but Kev’s was too quick for Brian’s Opel to keep up.
A best run in Blue lane for Brian and a best run for Kev in Yellow lane for a change.
.
Geoff decided to race his BMW Group 5, it’s had a long rest since the heady days of managing 6.2 sec lap times but it looked better each heat and was starting to look competitive in its last run in Blue lane.
.
TV & Film cars (plus standard Scalextric Saloon type cars)
.
Four Standard Class TV & Film cars (alphabetic order)
Two Modified Class TV & Film cars (alphabetic order)
TV & Film cars are obviously aimed at the collectors market but with a bit of tuning can make an enjoyable class of race cars even without the magnet.
.
Dave said he’d never had any interest in TV & Film cars but did enjoy driving the big Mustang borrowed off Chris.
.
Paul opted to race his Pioneer ‘Bullit’ Mustang for this event with a best run in Yellow lane. This was the first of two Modified Class TV & Film cars.
The other was Brian’s Pioneer Dukes of Hazzard Dodge Charger which was much more competitive after its motor upgrade in Modified Class.
.
The four Standard Class TV & Film cars varied dramatically in size with Chris’s James Bond Lotus Esprit probably a little smaller than Kev’s James Bond Aston Martin DB10, both dwarfed by the huge Bluesmobile Dodge Monaco and Batmobile 2022 of Geoff & Mike.
These cars all have standard Scalextric motor and gears with ponderous acceleration and mild brakes (especially once the cars are loaded with ballast to keep them in the slot in corners)
.
Afterwards Brian remarked how enjoyable the racing was despite these being slow cars…and that was the whole idea when we originally talked about this class.
.
Dave & Mike turned up with SRF F1 Sidecar kits to hand out to eager buyers. These come with a sealed spec motor but will need wheels & tyres, gears + guide to get them up and running.
Interest is very high and it is expected that we’ll see some wild and wonderful colour schemes.
I’ve been asked by a few people outside the club for videos of these racing together (don’t worry there’s going to be plenty! ).
