Just out of interest, which of the two was better? The Punto 'looks' as if it should be more stable, as the stubbier Clio looks too tall for its length so maybe more prone to tipping?

I think that's correct, the Punto was the car that featured most.  The chassis fitted to the Puntos has "Clio" embossed on it.

Definitely the overscale aspect was seen as unfair advantage but the magna-traction aspect may also have caused some debate although I think that is more down to the low ground clearance than the motor magnets as such.
