I just bid on an item on the British Ebay and I won it.
When starting to pay I noticed that the total price was higher than expected so I checked it to see if I made a mistake.
I then saw that the seller was using the Global Shipping Program that was charging an additional GBP 15 on a GBP 45 item.
Because of import duties and additional costs, while import from the UK is free below 150 Euro!
Why are people using this scam system of Ebay?
I messaged the seller that I cancelled the order because of these unnecessary costs that I am not willing to pay but that I am still willing to buy for the action price and stated shipping.
If the listing would clearly show that there was such an amount of extra costs I would not have bid at all. Shame on Ebay.

Yes, I'm afraid I don't bid on anything that uses eBay's global shipping ripoff.

Checking out the shipping costs of eBay purchases was (past tense) a specialty of mine. Living at the bottom of the world made this activity essential.
I almost never buy from eBay these days. I can also remember the days before that scam was implemented and dealing with people/sellers was a pleasure.

I once bid on five Scalex slot cars. I came back an hour later and the seller cancelled my bids. I asked him why? He said he didn't like my name. He further stated that I would most likely not pay the bill after the sale ended. I asked him if he was always this nuts? Or, was this a special day for insane people? Screw him.
I asked EBay staff if this was acceptable behavior to be called a thief by a total stranger? They said that sellers have the power to cancel anyone's bid. They tried to apologize for the bad experience. I told them Sellers have too much power. EBay said "That's life". Then I told them to sit on a flagpole and rotate. I've never bid on anything after that. That bidding system sucks.
Yes, I'll still buy stuff once in a while. However, "Buy now" purchases only.
I'm fortuntate that I have family in Buffalo. I ship from the US to the US. Then find another way to get pkgs into Canada.

I think I'll make an appointment with my optician, and use my laptop instead of my mobile phone when searching Ebay

I must admit I hate using my mobile for ebay, it's far too easy to miss something obvious.

I just sold a Scalextric car on ebay to a guy in Germany. But to make it economically viable, we managed to do a private sale instead, and I'm taking it with me when we pop over to Germany next week and will post it from there.
Who said selling on ebay was good for your mental health!
Let's go...OFF ROAD!
