December 2025 - Fly Classics & Club Slot It Porsche 956/962

As we hurtle our way into the closing stages of this year, December rears its head, adorned with crappy weather and corporate driven holiday cheer.  But with a new month, comes different classes (or at least a bit different…). Ok, so Fly Classics and club Slot It Porsches were never intended to follow on immediately after Lemans Classics and (member built) Slot It Porsches that were in November; but scheduling conflicts earlier in the year forced our hands and this is where we are.

Off the back of many comments and observations by members last year, there have been changes to Fly Classic specification which may have caught a few off guard.  In a nutshell, the stock body and chassis must still be retained, but the drivetrain and wheels can be replaced. Motors are free choice up to 22k (s-can), 15.8mm wheels can be used (aluminium rears) opening up a range of tyre options, and gears can be replaced with better alternatives (whilst retaining the 11/36 ratio).  Or, if you’re happy with your Fly car and how it performs, you can just leave it stock.

For various reasons (health/holidays/other commitments etc.), it was a limited turn out for week one with just 6 in attendance, but it was just enough to allow for four lanes of racing and a couple of marshals.  Racing got underway with the revised spec Fly’s, and something became instantly apparent; the changes to the spec were 100% worth it.  Fun and close battles ensued with side by side racing up and down the field.  Roger’s Lola T70 was set up fantastically and should have taken the overall victory, had it not been for him leaving the wrong lane tape on his car leading to some confusion and lost time for him on a race restart. Skippy’s 917 was constantly involved in some fierce and tense side by side battles, and Antony showed that even a GT40 (which previously struggled around here) can now be in the mix of things.

Ade C – Lola T70 – 94.00 Laps
Roger P – Lola T70 – 93.88 Laps
Mike Skipp – Porsche 917k – 92.09 Laps
Antony B – Ford GT40 - 91.72 Laps
Andy B – Porsche 917 Spider – 90.71 Laps
Kevin W – BMW M1 Procar – 79.40 Laps

So, a quick thank you to Mike West for taking the time to experiment with various setups earlier this year and come up with the revised spec. These Fly cars can be a little quirky to work with, but they do respond well to smooth running uprated parts.

On to the Club Porsche 956/962's (converted to run AW Flat 6 motors with 12/28 gearing). Again, ideally we wouldn’t be running these the month after running the same spec cars (albeit now club cars not member cars), but it is just how things panned out at the end of the season.  Needless to say, it’s a good looking grid of great handling cars which are fun to race.
