Rally pace notes...who was first? -

I always thought 'Jenks' invented pace notes, first used in the 1955 Mille Miglia in a Mercedes 300SLR driven by Stirling Moss

...it seems they were actually first used by Hans Klenk in the 1952 La Carrera Panamericana in a Mercedes 300SL driven by Karl Kling
Klenk was temporarily knocked unconscious by a vulture that crashed through the windscreen...Kling & Klenk won

Wondering about pace notes for Carrera Panamericana…. How accurate could they be? Notes maybe but….

Pre-prepared shorthand pace notes are pre-prepared shorthand pace notes, they were obviously accurate enough to be an idea to adopt and improve to where they are now.

Interesting.
Kling and Klenk sound like a blacksmith's though.

My point, Kevan, was that at an approximate distance of 3,500 kms how accurate could the said notes be? Perhaps the accuracy doesn’t matter just that they reconned somehow and recorded a few details as best they could.
