Club Setup - woodingboys - 6th-Aug-23
Hello,
A group of chums are in the process of setting up a regular get together in a village hall each week to do some slot racing.
The hope is that this will turn into an ongoing activity with the aim of forming a club.
Does anyone have any advice on the setting up of a club or could point me at any club documentation please.
We are in Prestwood in Buckinghamshire.

I think you mean setting up a club with proper structure.
Ours has a club constitution, club membership forms, class rules and racing calendar.
We have a club committee which consists of all the members who pay annually by monthly standing order and three club officers (Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary).

I know sometimes rules and regulations can eem to be a pain - but as slot cars are competative, rules nailed down are really a must to prevent discord and arguments later.
I know of a club that broke up because of a difference in interpretaion of rules around what wheels could be used. _ we can be a strange bunch for sure!!!

Here's what we currently use, items marked in red are changes from last years AGM.
These docs cover everything from circuit to Rally, club memberships, proxy voting forms, class width limits, rules and club constitution.
That lot took years of honing and only gets slightly tweaked year on year now...we've nearly sussed it

We've moved the AGM in line with the end of the clubs financial year, I don't know why the financial year ended in October but means we can spend two months deciding on next years race calendar which hasn't changed much the last two years after many years of swapping and changing for no good reason.
As 'Club Secretary' I start putting feelers out to club members for proposals etc about 6 weeks before the AGM then draw up an Agenda leaving space for notes to make the AGM Minutes easier.
It all sounds very formal but saves a lot of misunderstanding and possible arguments (it's been very civilised this last 2 years so arguments are rare)

If you do set up a Club, my best bit of advice would always be....Make sure it remains FUN
It can be a challenge at times, but I thoroughly enjoy running my club. We don't race high end, expensive, cars, but we have some extremely close, and competitive action. We race many varied classes, with a few different formats, and this certainly keeps it fun, especially for those who enjoy the company as much as the racing.
If you already have a bunch of friends who are keen, you have a very big headstart
