RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 27th-May-22

Another good attendance of 14 racers last week. Let's hope it continues.

This Tuesday we will be racing

1961-1985 Scratchbuilt and Policar Formula 1

and

Modified NASCAR

New members are welcome but we are getting close to capacity now.

If you are planning to visit for the first time it would be helpful if you contact Barry (email address is on the club website Southend Slot Racing Club) beforehand so that we can arrange loan of a controller and cars. If you prefer to spectate on your first visit that is fine but it is often better just to have a go and see how you get on.

The rules for all our classes and photos of members cars are also on the website.

Practice from around 6.30pm and racing starts at 7.30pm.
First night is free for new members then race fees are £5 per night.

Both myself and Alan Shawe will be representing the club at the Policar Grand Prix at Gaydon on Saturday. Looking forward to an enjoyable day.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 2nd-Jun-22

Unfortunately we suffered a few grip problems last week particularly on Yellow lane which caused a few people to come a cropper. Most likely cause was a combination of oil on the lane, probably from an over oiled car, and the temperature dropped very sharply during the evening which may have had an effect on tyres.

This Tuesday 7 June 2022 we will be racing

Pre 67 Front Engined Sports/GT to CSCRA rules but with 25000 rpm motor limit.

and

Racer Sideways Group 5.

Should be a good evening as Racer Sideways is usually fast and very competitive.

As usual practice from 6.30pm and racing starts at 7.30pm

Just about room for a couple of new members so if you want to come along you will be welcome but, if possible, please use the contact details on the club website to let us know you intend to visit so that we can try to arrange the loan of cars and a controller for the evening.

Our Friday Vintage race evenings continue on Friday 10 June. Joel has listed the classes as 1/24 36D hard body Sports/GT (cars as nears standard as possible as sold by Cox, Monogram, Revell etc), 1/32 Sport /GT (open class ie vacform body and all pre 1972 parts and motor) and 1/32 Saloon which I think is an error as we have never run a 1/32 vintage saloon class but we will sort out something on the night.
Again new and visiting vintage racers welcome.

Practice from 6.30pm and Racing starts at 7.30pm.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 24th-Jun-22

Apologies for not posting for the last couple of weeks but I have had a really nasty bug which has made me feel very ill. Covid tests all proved negative so it is a bit of a mystery.

So this Tuesday 28 June 2022 we have a special team event for Slot it Classic Sports/GT (except the Matra 670) and Fly Classic Sports/GT which can be upgraded with a Slotit motor and rear wheels.
This gives us all a chance to dust off the cobwebs and give some of the cars an outing that were competitive in our Classic Sports/GT class up until the end of last year.

Graham is trying to mix drivers of varying abilities in each team so that everyone has a chance of winning.

Practice from about 6.30pm. Racing from about 7.15pm but please arrive in good time so that we can get underway as quickly as possible.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 15th-Jul-22

This Tuesday 12 July 2022 we will be racing

Formula 1 1961 to 1985

and

Modified NASCAR

As you can see from the photos we get a varied field in each class.

Practice from around 6.30pm and racing starts at 7.30pm

New members are welcome although we are getting pretty close to the limit that the clubhouse can hold.
If you intend to come along please contact Barry through the club website www.southendslotclub.co.uk so that we can try to arrange loan cars and a controller for you to use. If you prefer to spectate on your first visit that is fine but you can always try a car in the interval between classes.

First evening is free then race fees are still only £5 per race night.

Rules for each class and photos of our club track and members cars from each class are also on the website.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 22nd-Jul-22

A lower turnout of only 9 racers last week due to holidays and Vic having problems with his sight (Let's hope they can sort that out for him) but we still had some good racing.
This week we move on to

Pre 67 Front Engined Sports and GT Cars

and

Racer Sideways Group 5

Practice from around 6.30pm, Racing starts at 7.30pm.

New members are welcome but please contact Barry beforehand. Contact details are on the club website.
First night is free then race fees are £5 per night.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 24th-Aug-22

Apologies for not keeping the thread up to date. I spent a long time building and preparing cars for the CSCRA meet at Netley in early August where SSRC was represented by Alan Shawe and myself. Unfortunately the meeting wasn't my finest hour in slot racing and my biggest claim to fame during the weekend was having a car change lanes and in the subsequent high speed deslot at the end of the straight the car got wedged in one of the cubby holes of another competitiors race box and the marshalls couldn't find the car to put it back on track.  I returned with a lot of cars needing repair but I am sure we will try again next time.

This Tuesday 30 August 2022 we will be racing

Pre 67 Front Engined Sports/GT to CSCRA rules but with 25000 rpm motor limit.

and

Racer Sideways Group 5.

As usual practice from 6.30pm and racing starts at 7.30pm

Just about room for a couple of new members so if you want to come along you will be welcome but, if possible, please use the contact details on the club website to let us know you intend to visit so that we can try to arrange the loan of cars and a controller for the evening.

Our Friday Vintage race evenings continue on Friday 26 August with 1/24 Sports/GT open class, 1/32 Sport /GT (open class ie vacform body and all pre 1972 parts and motor) and 1/24 Formula 1.
Rules are the same as the rules for the annual Rockingham Double Trouble vintage event.

Again new and visiting vintage racers welcome. If your cars don't quite meet the rules you will normally be allowed to run them for a first visit.

Practice from 6.30pm and Racing starts at 7.30pm.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 3rd-Sep-22

A good attendance of 13 racers last week even though a couple of regulars were missing due to holidays and other commitments and some goods close racing as well.

I posted the wrong classes for last week but this Tuesday 6th September 2022 we will definitiely be racing

Pre 1967 Front Engined Sports/GT Cars.
This replaces our old Ninco Classics class and follows CSCRA rules except that the motor is limited to 25000 rpm.

and

Racer Sideways Group 5
which always produce some frantic racing.

As usual practice from around 6.30pm and racing starts at 7.30pm although we are trying to start at 7.15 if possible now that we have more racers on club nights.

As usual we can probably find room for a couple more new members but if you want to come along please contact Barry (contact on the club website) so that we can try to arrange loan cars and controllers. First night is free so the only cost to try club racing is an evening of your time.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 19th-Sep-22

Quite a good attendance again last week with some close racing.
Our next meeting on Tuesday 20th September we will be racing

NSR F1

and

a Club Class - probably Nonnoslot F1 where cars are provided by club member John English.

The clubroom is getting a bit crowded on some nights but we can probably make room for one or two more new members although it would be helpful if you could contact Barry via the club website beforehand so that we can tyry to arrange the loan of a controller and cars.
First evening is free then it is £10 for your first night of each month and £5 for each further night.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 3rd-Jan-23

When the late Colin Nichols ran the club our 6 hour endurance race became a Christmas/ New Year tradition but in recent years the event hasn't been run so on 30th December the club finished off our 2023 programme with a 4 hour endurance race for Slot It Group C cars built to the same regulations as we race on club nights.

We had 5 teams of three racers comprising some of our regular members, David Lawson and Colin Spark (RS Slot Racing) who only get to race with us occasionally and we welcomed two members of GT Raceway who had very little experience of racing on wood.

Estuary Equipe were the early leaders but, after the lunch break they were overhauled by Team SSRC The event was won by Team SSRC (1228 laps), followed by Estuary Equipe (1178 laps). Third place had been close all day but it was finally English American Racing (1137 laps) ahead of GT Raceway (1123 laps) and Maltesers (1057 laps).

Thanks to Graham for organising an enjoyable event and hopefully we can tempt a few more members of GT Raceway to join us for our next endurance event which should be a 600 lap NASCAR race in April.

RE: Southend Slot Racing Club - autoavia - 3rd-Jan-23

Owing to events in my personal life I didn't keep this thread up to date last year but I will try to post regularly in 2023.

Tuesday 10 Jan Scratchbuilt Saloons and Modified GT

Tuesday 17 Jan 1961-85 F1 including Policar and Modified NASCAR

Tuesday 24 Jan Pre 1967 Front Engined Sports/GT Cars and Club Cars

Tuesday31 Jan Earlybirds (Grand Prix Cars up to 1960) and Slot It/NSR Classic Sports/Prototypes

New members are welcome but please get in touch first so that we can try to arrange the loan of a controller and cars if you don't own anything suitable.

Practice from 6.30pm, Racing starts at 7.30pm.

First week is free for new members then race fees across a month average about £6.50 a week.

Good luck to all our club members who will be competing in the Policar Grand Prix and Winter Classic at Rockingham in mid January.
