The track and race control system has been tested and the hut cleaned so that we can (at last) reopen on Tuesday 20 July provided nothing changes in the meantime.
Anyone who attends must have had 2 covid jabs. You can wear a mask if it makes you feel more comfortable and hand sanitiser will be provided or if you prefer you can bring your own.
As we expect to welcome several prospective new members we will race club car classes for the first two weeks so that everyone has equal equipment. If those new members who have been in contact with Barry don't have a controller we will arrange a loan or share of a controller on the night.
Practice from about 6pm and racing starts at 7.30pm.

After a few niggling problems with the track which we thought had already been solved we got off to a good start with Slotit DTM and NSR Porsche 917/10 club cars provided by John. The racing was close and it was good to see everyone again after such a long enforced break.
Only two prospective new members managed to attend and unfortunately one of them felt rather daunted by how competitive club racing can be and, although he enjoyed the evening, he decided that club racing wasn't for him - completely understandable and he is welcome to come back again at any time should he change his mind.
Hopefully we will see some of the other prospective members tomorrow when we will be racing club cars again - Ninco DTM and Nonnoslot F1 fitted with resin bodies to replace the original rather fragile vacforms.
Practice from around 6pm and racing start at 7.30pm.

We had a second week of close racing with club cars and it was good to welcome a few more members back after our enforced covid closure.
Next week we revert to the calendar shown on the club website.
Tuesday 3 August we will be racing
Scratchbuilt GP Cars up to 1960 based on the Wolverhampton Earlybirds rules
Classic Sports / Protoypes and Can Am - Slotit and Fly Classics but Fly cars can have the motor replaced by a 23000 rpm Slotit V12
New members welcome but, if possible, please contact Barry through the club website beforehand.
Practice from around 6pm
First Race 7.30pm

Our return to racing continues on 10 August with
SCX DTM
Club class cars provided by John.
As usual practice from around 6pm and racing at 7.30pm.
New members welcome but please contact Barry first (contact details at top of thread) so that we can try to arrange a loan of a controller and a car. First night is free and then £5 per race night
Please visit the club website Southend Slot Racing Club for our race calendar and rules for each class.
We haven't restarted our vintage nights yet because most of our vintage racers can't attend at present for various reasons but we hope to start them again as soon as enough people can attend to make it viable.

Tony - good to see you guys racing again

It is great to be racing again especially as I somehow managed to win a couple of classes on our return.
Unfortunately our vintage racers are rather depleted at the moment. We sadly lost John Secchi to covid and most of the other members of the North London crew have various health issues at the moment. Joel is spending a lot of time in France getting his barn conversion sorted and Alan's wife is too ill for him to attend club at the moment. Let's hope everyone recovers ASAP and we can get vintage nights up and running again fairly soon.
