British & German cars night (Battle of Britain)…double session

[attachment=48350]
.
We had a great turnout tonight as nine club members brought many and varied cars for tonight.
Scalextric, Ninco, Racer, Thunderslot, SlotIt, NSR plus a couple of resin body cars.
Classes entered were Small Saloon, Small Sport, Saloon, Group 5 (Saloon and Sport) and of course Sport.
Amongst these were Modified, Prostock and Open Class cars.
.
Needless to say the racing was varied with lots of class winners, some ding dong races, a few spills but a very enjoyable night's racing.
.
George stayed long enough to enter his first race, he’s had lots of practice over the last couple of months, I think he was itching to join in racing and he did very well racing a club Ford Capri Group 5, focussing on his own car and not getting drawn into trying to catch faster cars.
Geoff turned up with the car he wanted to bring a couple of weeks ago, his Racer Ford Capri Group 5 which was comfortably quicker than his gold leaf Lola.
.
Brian H was really pleased that his Scalextric Jaguar XKRS managed three heats without breakdown, it’s pretty quick too!
.
Paul brought a Scalextric Ford Sierra RS500, the sole Small Saloon entry was guaranteed a class win.
Other guaranteed class winners were Ed with his Ninco Opel Calibra in Modified Saloon class and Kev with his Ninco Healey in Prostock Small Sports class.
.
A pair of resin Jaguar XJ12C’s raced by Brian L & Mike with only half a lap between them at the end.
.
Andy turned up with an interesting car, a Scaleauto BMW M1 Group 5 with a NSR Mosler chassis which looks like it was made to fit, a really nice runner it is too.

Car Comparisons

[attachment=48352]
.
Enjoy watching the mix of cars in the two videos, it was certainly enjoyable racing each other at the end of which I thought we should do these mixed class nights far more often.

. .
…can I whisper it but we had seven jeopardy-free races
.
The closest race of the night was Heat #4 as Kev, Mike & Geoff all crossed the line on the same lap.
Kev’s best run was in Blue lane in his first race.
Mike was the most consistent Sidecar with three lane scores almost identical.
Geoff had the best Yellow lane score of the night.
.
Brian L said he was now fully confident in his sidecar after having a guide mount come loose two weeks ago and was one of three who were very close at the end as he, Geoff & Mike all finished half a lap apart overall.
.
Brian H drifted down the pecking order this week, what we’re finding is brand new tyres once treated, perform great and lap times are best then over the weeks as tyres wear the lap times get a bit slower until they settle down to a consistent level as we saw with his three very closely matching lane results.
.
Ed & Paul were pretty close together at the end, the biggest difference between them was Blue lane where Ed traditionally struggles but not tonight.
Both having their best lane scores in Yellow lane.

.
Here’s a reminder of the setups that seem to work well: .
A ‘gentleman's agreement’ formulated after a discussion with the SRF design team to keep the racing close for everyone: .
Two videos this week…enjoy!

.
Well these were quick tonight weren’t they! 6.2’s for six of us and even sneaking into the 6.1’s for one… with a set of club cars that have never had treatment on the (10mm wide) tyres!
To put that into perspective, that’s quicker than six of the eight Sport cars that raced in the next event!
.
So yes we had some great close racing with these, deslots meant dropped overall places.

Five class winners tonight:

. .
…jeopardy was back this week with a few mates!
.
Before getting into it, Geoff & Kev had fitted NSR red tyres for two reasons, 1) they don’t ball-up and 2) they’re much harder to damage.
.
Was it Friday the 13th tonight or something?
.
Brian L has quietly gained more confidence in his Sidecar and this week sneaked into second place on the podium.
.
Geoff was down the pecking order due to his first heat on red tyres which probably cost him a couple of laps.  He said we needed to know if those tyres would work…
.
Brian H is still finding the level at which the tyre performance levels off… the second best overall score in Yellow lane though!
.
Kev’s ‘psychedelic serpent’ Sidecar was raced with a new chassis and had a best run in Yellow lane.
.
Ed’s Sidecar was deslotting coming out of corners, it was noticed that he boots the power in really hard which lifts the front and kicks the rear, he was advised to turn ‘acceleration’ right down to ‘low’ on his controller to smooth it out… it was noticeably smoother when he did.

Three videos this week…lots of jeopardy in the Sidecar video this week… enjoy!

RE: Manx Slot Car Club - 2026 race reports & results - Kevan - 27th-Sep-26

Race report and results - 24th Sep 2026 -
.
Birthday boy George.

16 last week, the club bought him a new bright orange (Jagermeister Nurburgring 1975 R-Series) Scaleauto Porsche 911 RSR, a very nice car that he can race in many of our classes and theme nights.  He seemed a little overwhelmed and surprised but really likes his new car which should go very well with minimal setup.
.
Grand Prix + F1

[attachment=48628]
.
It’s good to see there’s still interest in the older GP & classic F1 cars:
These three raced each other all night without having to worry about faster/wider ‘modern’ F1’s in the next lane.
The closest finish was Between Brian H’s Ferrari and Kev’s Lotus, finishing 4 car lengths apart in Heat #1.
…so three class winners here.
.
Of the four F1’s, three were NSR 86/89 models which ended up being four NSR 86/89 models after Andy’s Open Class Ligier embedded itself in the barrier under the bridge and didn’t work after it was recovered.
Heat #6 was the closest race as Brian L, Geoff & Mike finished just over one lap apart.

[attachment=48629]
.
During practice, George was driving his new NSR F1, I gave him a NSR deep wood guide which made a lot of difference, reducing deslots by a noticeable amount.  Andy had a drive of it and managed a 6.1s lap so it's a competitive car.
.
NSR Mosler 'Club Challenge 2026' #8 (club controllers) - track at 11v

[attachment=48630]
.
Five ‘Club Challenge 2026’ cars (in heat order):
Brian H raced the club Mosler and Dave raced his own Mosler
.
These are very quick cars, four of us getting sub-6 second hot laps, Dave & Geoff managing 6.0’s and Brian H managed a low 6.1s lap with the club Mosler.
.
Heat #1 ended up being the closest of the lot as Mike and the two Brian’s crossed the line less than a lap apart with Brian L crossing the finish line first in Yellow lane.
. [attachment=48631]
.
SRF F1 SIDECARS

[attachment=48632]
. .
Yes we enjoyed some good racing with these, both racing them and watching them… I mean marshaling without watching them, honest!
.
Six heats of trouble-free racing which ended with a wonderful race with all three outfits crossing the line just over one second apart to a round of applause as Mike held on to a quickly diminishing lead with Brian H closing in and Brian L closing in even faster!...a race worth watching (Heat #6).

Race report and results - 1st October 2026 -
. .
Saloons + Small Saloons + Group 5 Saloons

[attachment=48674]

There were five of us tonight… err, stop the race!... make that six as Andy noticed his name was missing from the heat list part way through Heat #1
. Prostock Saloon was made up of Group 5, Saloon, BTCC and WRC cars
. One Open Class Saloon
. .
We had some great racing with the race for top spot in Prostock Saloon being less than half a second between Brian’s Capri in first place, from Kev’s Camaro.
.
George also did exceptionally well with his Mitsubishi…one deslot all night!

[attachment=48675]
.
Sports + Small Sports + Group 5 Sports

[attachment=48676]

Four different classes were represented tonight
. .
Chris bought a new crown gear for his Corvette, only to discover the chassis needs a few thou’ filing off the chassis to let it sit low enough for the axle to pass through both bearings.  No doubt he’ll have it sorted for next time so raced it as it was tonight, a very quiet smooth runner.
.
Heat #4 was the closest race of the whole evening as Andy’s Lexus crossed the line less than four lengths ahead of Kev’s BMW V12.
Three 24 lappers for the Lexus with a best run in Blue lane, a couple of 23 lappers and a 24 lapper for the BMW in Blue lane.
.
It was good to see Mike’s UOP Shadow DN4 again, it’s a nice quick car and looks great at speed.  Three 21 lappers with a best run in Blue lane.
.
Brian’s Porsche was miles off the pace in his first race, Heat #1in Red lane, managing 3 laps less than in the other two lanes but recovered late with a best run and his fastest lap in Blue lane in Heat #4.

[attachment=48677]
.
SRF F1 SIDECARS

[attachment=48678]
. .
As there were only three of us left by this time, we raced together and stopped during track calls.
Races were increased to 4 minutes as there was time left in the evening.
Brian wasn’t enjoying driving his Sidecar in Heat #1, then discovered the piece of wood he’d taped over the linear/curve button to keep it in ‘linear mode’ had fallen off and his controller (SlotIt SCP) was operating in ‘curve mode’... once he’d realised this his Sidecar was nice to drive again.

[attachment=48679]
.
Kev brought his Kart with him and likes how it goes.  After the Sidecar racing Mike drove it for quite a few laps and he likes how it goes also.
If there’s interest in these as a class I’ll price one up with part numbers.
.
Three videos this week…enjoy!

Race report and results - 15th October 2026 -
. .

Grand Prix + Prewing F1 + Classic F1 + F1

[attachment=48836]
.
A great turnout tonight and a nice change to see the majority wanting to race the smaller GP/PW/Classic F1’s (Kev opted to run an F1 to make up a heat of three cars)
. .
The closest class finish was between Geoff and Brian H as the Talbot Lago finished a lap ahead of the Mercedes W196.
There were good races to watch and race in too.

[attachment=48837]
.

Race-Wot-U-Brung

[attachment=48838]

This turned out far more interesting than everyone anticipated…
.
I had to split the ‘vehicles’ into different classes… and scales!
Bear in mind tonight was originally on the calendar as a ‘TV & Film Car’ event (there was one though)
. .
Nobody knew what to expect as George (Red lane) and Brian L (Blue lane) were separated by Andy’s Raid truck (Yellow lane) in Heat #1……..
…Raid trucks are top-heavy, high speed cornering (even with that 38K NSR King motor) tends to result in marshal intervention.
.
Heat #2 was also different as Geoff & Ed lined up next to Kev’s Kart in its first competitive race.
.
Heat #5 was a shock as George & Mike waited on the line as Brian H’s huge 1/24th scale Dodge Charger joined them.  It’s 80mm wide, surely too wide for our track…
.
The most interesting heat of the night was the last one as Andy’s Raid truck lined up next to Brian H’s huge Dodge Charger with just enough room between them for a 1/32 scale cyclist!
Three cars like Brian’s Dodge Charger would definitely be a crash-fest, only one was OK for this one-off test event but we may have to have a maximum width limit going forward as we have more nights like this (which we definitely will because it was a great event).

[attachment=48840]
.
I wanted to say something whilst Geoff was in the middle of a race, it was flying tonight but best not ‘do a Murray’ on him when he’s going so well.
.
Brian L had a great final race… trying not to reflect on throwing his first race away, losing over a lap after a deslot under the bridge with only 25 seconds to go!
.
Mike did well, especially in Yellow and Blue lanes to finish within a lap of Geoff.
.
Brian H had the second best overall run in Blue lane but lost a fair bit of time in Red lane in Heat #4.
.
Ed’s shiny black outfit had a best run in Red lane in Heat #2, it’s his favourite practice lane and had a clean race.
.
Kev had a change of tyres this week, the same as his #1 Sidecar outfit, a slightly bigger diameter and gave it a bit more top speed.  A 23 lapper in Yellow lane was his best race.
