Having not known of the existence of either just five weeks ago I now have both. So - I've reached the goal of a six kart grid - but the search goes on. Still looking for a reasonably priced black 'West' version but there's no rush. Apparently all things come to those who wait - extremely patiently!!

Is there anything so long as the time elapsed between buying a slot car and it arriving in the post?

Lovely-Dubly!
Herbie was a recent acquisition and the van is an early-arriving birthday present, rather proving the premise of the latest podcast wrong. Neither trouble the lower digits of the lap-timer, but are utterly full of charm.

Finally got round to getting a Scalextric Daytona ’Vette, and very nice it is too.
Removed the magnet and followed Woodcote’s set up tips (tungsten putty in front of motor, NSR rear tyres) and it storms round the track! I think it might be the best performing Scalextric car I’ve owned.
Oh, and I got a free Scalextric mug too!
