A friend sent me a APB C7042 powerbase which had a couple of dead throttle ports to see if these could be fixed.
I believe this fault occasionally happens during plugging-in of wired controllers, and is likely due to static charge effects from the throttle ports onto the microcontroller input pins.
So can the microcontroller be replaced?
The short answer is yes - but it needs considerable care.
The longer answer involved learning how to replace the microcontroller without allowing any solder bridges to occur between any of the 64 solder points. Once a bridge occurs it is extremely difficult to correct.
After three re-fitment attempts on the same APB - success!
And, next time around it should be a bit easier :)
After re-fitment, a continuity check of each of the 64 solder points was carried to ensure all APB functions were restored. This is quite time intensive!
The final step was to flash the v1.009 firmware onto the new microcontroller. The result is a fully functioning APB with all throttle ports operating correctly.
At present, while brand new APBs are still available the best solution for an APB with a a failed microcontroller is replacement of the entire APB. However, with time, and as the stock of new APBs is exhausted the option of replacing the microcontroller may become more attractive.
At least we now know that the microcontroller swap-out is possible using simple lab-bench soldering techniques.

New Race App for Scalextric!
I’ve been helping to beta test this app.
Which is now on the app stores:
www.smartrace-arc.com/download
You’ll find it adds so much to your enjoyment of using your track.
Here is a short interview with the developer, Marc.
https://youtu.be/ykuimZXcteo
SmartRace for Scalextric ARC is now available for download. It works with ARC One, ARC Air and ARC Pro.
You can get it here: www.smartrace-arc.com/download
Hope you'll like it. Happy racing!
Seven friends gathered for an evening of fun.
Hot Rods were first on the menu. An all scratch built classes with 14k motors. Anything goes so long as it's 1949 or older. So, the old '49 Ford Tudor still fits the class. A bit tippy though.
Pre-war racers were up next. Another scratch built class.
Then came the Slot.It DTM's. Box stock with urethane tires.
The last class to race were the Rally cars. No navigator? No racing. NSR cars with 22k long can motor/cars were the choice of most drivers. There are a few other brands hiding in the mix.
Thank you very kindly for looking.
Ken
hello,
i have a nice regulator of ds of 35ohm. now the inside is getting a bit black (as can be seen in the picture) my question is, how exactly does this happen, and how and with what is this easy to clean?
i would like to hear it l,
Robbin :)
We are back at the Barn for our first AFX Formula One race of 2025. The championship is supported by AFX Racing this year, with a box of AFX goodies to be handed out to all competitors and some special prizes for race winners and our champions. Here are our 2024 F1 champions - Pete and Ollie - modelling some AFX caps...
Our HO F1 rules have changed a little for the new season. Super-G+ car must run a minimum wheel & tyre height of 11mm (the same as in Nascar). And we are going to become stricter on rear wings - they must be fitted for the start of each heat and final... AFX chassis from the Turbo to the current Mega-G+ are permitted, with the only non-AFX chassis getting an entry is the Tyco 440X2. The Tyco will compete against the pre-2000 AFX chassis for the F1 Classic Cup. The 2025 WHO Regs brochure can be found here: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...p?tid=4574
We have decided on three of the four tracks - starting with a layout inspired by Las Vegas, AFX's home Grand Prix venue...
In June, we'll be visiting a British Grand Prix circuit, followed by Suzuka in September. The track for the final race in December will be chosen by you, our racers and supporters... Send us your ideas and we'll produce a shortlist to vote on over the summer.
As always, doors open at 6.15pm on Wednesday for practice. Heats may start before 7pm, depending on numbers. We aim to finish the step-up finals by 9.30. Race fees are £3 (£2 under-16s) for a whole evening of racing. Club cars and controllers are available for no extra cost. Racers of all ages and abilities are very welcome - we ask that those aged 13 years and under bring a responsible adult with them.
There are some fabulous new AFX F1 models available and on their way. The Alfa Romeos and Saubers arrived last year, with the Senna Lotus 98T and 99T recently released in a limited edition US set...
These are expected as individual cars soon-ish, plus another team's classic and current cars should be announced before too long!
This Fly Models Lola was an analog car converted to digital. It was one of my first cars to get modified to run better. Gluing the motor, CB Design LMP wheels with new tires, new guide, different interior, a few other things and... LED head and tail lights! It has been driven a lot and has battle scars to prove it! The head light covers are cracked as is the adz end from rear-enders! It's a good runner! The real deal Lola is just about my favorite race car! Youtubes of them being driven on the track are highly recommended viewing!!!
A long time ago I bought an NSR White Kit of the 1967 Ford GT MKIV. I found some decals made by Patto's Place in Australia and put them away to make the Gurney and Foyt 1967 LeMans 24 Hour winner. Finally, just this week, I got it done.

I primed the body with Testors gray primer, sprayed on Testors Italian Red laquer and coated it with Testors Gloss Clear laquer. I also detail painted the driver, the interior and the engine.
