Hi All,
Here's another thread for photos of our police cars, marshal cars, safety cars and other race support service stuff.
Yes, it's just like the other thread!
Hmmm, where to start. How about these...
...which make me very happy indeed that I managed to get hold of one of each. Right place, right time I suppose. When I saw the red one, and then saw the price I walked away. Then, about 2 seconds later I came to my senses, realised I'd regret not getting one forever and blew most of my 2017 Slot Festival budget for the day on it. I'm so glad I did.
As soon as Scalextric released the Black DB5 this year I was expecting them to go on to release a marshal version as an update of the old black DB4 one. I was very surprised to see it as a 2019 Slot Fest special, I'd have thought Scalextric would have wanted to release that themselves as I bet there's a massive market fo them as a standard model. Anyway, I blew most of this years Slot Fest budget on one, and I'm glad I did!
It looks lovely but out of the two I think I prefer the red one.
And just for reference, here's the old black one:
Ok, that should have put this thread on the map!
More to come, but what have you got?
NEW PATRIOT EVOLUTION.
This is a Metal Chassis designed to fit Slot It Group C Cars.
Coming Soon - Produced for Scale Racing LLC
Chassis shown here is the pre-production stage model
This is a Stainless Steel chassis kit that will allow you to convert any Slot It Group C car – using all the parts except the plastic chassis.
Each kit is complete with all the fasteners plus the “Telescopic Design” Body/Chassis mounting Hardware, in Color Coded Anodized Aluminum (various heights) – There is no soldering required – The kit also comes with Hex Wrench for the “Nylock Nuts”
Any of the Slot It Motor Pods will fit – Inline, SW and AW It’s adjustable for wheelbase – 8 Positions in total – 82.20, 82.70, 83.70, 84.20, 85.20, 85.70, 86.70, 87.20 (dimensions in millimetres)
The Body Mounting System allows for very fine vertical adjustment for positioning of the chassis – Simply by turning the 2 “Hex head” Screws by 60 degree increments (black anodized one in the picture below) – And positioning the chassis over them to Lock and keep them from rotating.
Then the M2 Wafer head screws (in picture) are used to secure the chassis to the body – The screws have a coating of retaining compound allowing them to be fixed in any position without vibrating loose.
Expected Retail price on the compete kit is under $50.00 USD.
Patriot Evolution – Car complete pictured below is 86 Grams
I'm off to race at the Essex 24 Hours at GT Raceway this weekend. After a break of three years, the UK's only analogue 1/32 scale 24 hour slot car race is back. All six teams will be racing standard Racer Sideways Lamborghini Huracáns with handout motors and tyres, supplied by Gaugemaster.
The six teams lining up on the grid tomorrow at midday are:
GT Raceway
West London Scalextric Club
Worthing
Truspeed
Molesey Slot Car Club
Scuderia Vermicelli
The race starts at midday, lights go out at 10pm and daylight returns at 6am Sunday morning. Each team will spend an hour on each lane and rotate through all six lanes four times over the 24 hours.
I'll be racing on the Worthing team, the four of us race at either East Worthing Scalextric Club, WHO/digital or both. Three of us raced together in the Worthing Digital team at the DiSCA oXigen Le Mans 24 hours in April. To complete a triple crown of UK 24 hour endurance races in 2019, I'll be racing at the HO Le Mans 24 hours in Derby this November
With a bit of luck, you will be able to follow updates from WHO Racing on Instagram and Twitter over the weekend - look out for #essex24hours. I'll post up a report here when I return...
So generically I collect Ferrari and Can Am.But there are those cars from my childhood that just stick out - Cucaracha, Cox Lotus 40, Scaley Lotus 20 and Sharknose Ferrari.
In a collection a few years ago, I picked up another one of those cars - Monogram Lotus 38.
When I got, I cleaned it up, repainted it and redecalled it. I noticed the the motor was the correct red monogram version, but that it had been balanced, and on closer investigation, lightly rewound as well. Old adverts from the 60's magazines came to mind and after investigation I found that this was one of those cars supplied new by Dyna rewind, and for an extra $ the motor was balanced and rewound. SO I guess it becomes slightly rarer as a result.
But the truth is I just love the car.
The car as it arrived
Then as it is now.....
The Dyna rewind advert.
Note the grind style of balancing in advert and in the motor of the car.
Just love this car.
Whats yours??
Figure this one out if you can. I am on a fixed tariff with EDF, payment by monthly direct debit, expiring in September. Did my meter readings last week and the bill said I was in credit so they have refunded £62. So far so good. Then had an email from them saying I am not paying enough to be on a zero balance in September so they are going to increase the debit by £10 a month! Errrr........... couldn't they have left it as it was, used the credit balance and refunded later or is that too simple for them?
I saw 3D Printing & Printers under Scratch Building but could not find an actual thread for said topic, so I created this thread, hopefully in the correct place.
Following with interest myself as I too will be making a decision within next four weeks. I don't mind spending a bit more to get a better printer and associated upgrades from suggestions and recommendations here and elsewhere.
Put it simply, if you had $2000 budget what would you suggest/recommend include any upgrades such as bed and nozzle. I would like to print replacement parts for cars and figures etc as well more so than chassis, all in 1/32, but will give that a go as well eventually so specific consumable would be great also please.
The budget set should include software if need be however I am open to a small increase in budget. I would also be looking into a 3D scanner and its associated hardware and software.
Fine printing detail I believe is .02 or something similar, please correct me on this, learning lots about everything currently including the human body and health and surgeries, jargon etc, etc, so my brain is beyond fried.
Thanks in advance for suggestions, recommendations and direction.

There are very few truly iconic liveries in world motorsport with the Gulf and JPS ones probably the best known. In the USA there is one that stands out above all others though, the black Goodwrench paint job on Dale Earnhardt's #3 NASCAR Chevy Monte Carlo.
I took these photos in the RCR museum in Lexington, North Carolina and 40+ Earnhardt cars in one room is quite a sight. The car on the right is his 1998 Daytona 500 winning one, retired to the museum straight after the race. USA motorsport teams do things a little differently to European ones and you can drive up to any NASCAR race shop to be greeted by a large sign saying "Welcome race fans." You can walk in and watch the race cars being prepared from special viewing gantries. The nice lady on reception will load you up with some free souvenirs and if there happen to be any drivers there they will happily stop for a chat and an autograph. There is often a museum attached, mostly free but some make a small charge. You want to sit in a real historic NASCAR? No problem go right ahead.
Try doing that at Mercedes or McLaren F1 and you wouldn't get past the security gate but NASCAR drivers and teams know who really pays their wages and go out of their way to cater for the fans.
Returning to the subject in hand, between 2005 and 2010 SCX and Scalextric produced at least 50 different NASCARs which was a bit strange as neither had shown a great deal of interest in the genre previously or indeed since. It was always assumed they were trying to up their profile in the States but, with the astronomical cost of licenses, it is doubtful if they made much profit on them. They were gratefully received by NASCAR fans in the UK though and many clubs still run classes based on them.
The SCX versions were lovely models and brilliant racers provided you got one with a good motor and decent tyres because they were a bit variable in that department. Once sorted they totally dominated our club NASCAR class for many years and blew the Scalextric versions away every round. Slightly slower in a straight line but perfect brakes and they went round the twisty bits on rails. There were a whole host of liveries produced but the absolute stunner was the subject of this thread, Dale Earnhardt's #3 Chevy Monte Carlo in the gorgeous black livery he was famous for. There were two production runs with about 6500 cars released altogether, it is highly sought after by American collectors to this day and often fetches over $100. Apart from the absence of Winston Cup stickers, for tobacco advertising restriction reasons, the livery is near perfect.
Of course, being an SCX production, there is one teensy weensy problem with the authenticity of the car. It is a 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo and Earnhardt was killed in a crash at the 2001 Daytona 500 so he never drove it! This is one of several anomalies in the range and they also did a Wrangler livery of the same car which he drove in 1987! I know manufacturers like to get as much mileage out of a mould as possible by updating the livery for a couple of years but that is pushing it a bit. Never mind though, it is a beautiful slot car and I have a pair of them - one to look at and one to race.
Next race is on July 21. Come try a car, watch the races, and enjoy some hot dogs with Ruth's Mustard. Call 603-826-4242 for details. Racing is free, as are the hot dogs.
