Hello everyone,

You may already know the magazines: Jim Hunt Magazine and Slot Car Mods. If not:
With the following links you can legally download these slot car magazines for free or read them online.
In any case, I have no commercial interest in these magazines.
Gerrit

They are both very well illustrated. See for yourself:

Spanish slot car manufacturer Avant Slot  have revealed some of their 2021 plans over the past few weeks. Expected very soon are two new six-wheel-drive MAN Dakar trucks...

Avant Slot 50411 - MAN Truck 6x6 'KH-7' Team Epsilon - 2020 Dakar Rally - Jordi Juvanteny, Jose Luis Criado & Xavier Domenech. RRP £135.

Avant Slot 50410 - MAN Truck 6x6 'Monster Energy' assistance truck 2009 Dakar Rally. RRP £135.

Both trucks have six-wheel-drive, a drop arm guide and suspension all around. They are available for pre-order at MRE and Pendles.

Another support vehicle is a collaboration with artisan modellers Resinas Maralic...

Avant Slot / Maralic 1902 - Lancia Martini Fiat Van. RRP £195.

Avant Slot report that the mould stage is complete and development of the prototype has commenced. This will be a slot van...

And there is a high level of detail inside and out...

This collaboration follows the sensational Opel support vehicle produced last year (see article here).

Finally, you may have seen the announcement that Avant Slot are releasing a 1/32 scale construction range...

Alas, it was the Spanish equivalent of an April Fool's joke... of course Bigsmile

We'll bring you more Avant Slot news when we have it.

Next kit Build.
An eBay purchase from Italy.
Black arrow gt3 italia (Ferrari)

This will be an oXigen digital car, initially with a "B" cartridge
Setting this up in readiness for running at Stanborough (Herts) when the club opens up again.
The club recently retrofitted their 6 lane permanent ninco track with oXigen and lane changers so that the track can support both analogue and oXigen.

Will probably be a nightmare to get the B chip into this car because of the motor mount design.
Very likely that the emitter led will have to be on fly leads.
Maybe a "C" chip will be the way to go.

Not planning to make this car DiSCA compliant initially. Maybe that will come later.
Team GasMunkee have a gt3 italia already (built by and in the hands of Graham Eldridge) which texted well but was superceeded by the (event winning) ChupaChups Merc. (Again, built by Graham)

I'll probably leave the sioux motor in place.
Mental note to calculate and check the power rating of the Sioux before I start blowing chips up  Thumbup
As you can see, the kit is a ready painted job. I just didn't want to go through the same build challenge as the recently built (and reviewed) BlackBull.
Especially, the etchwork  Angry

The organisers of the UK Slot Car Festival has announced today that the 2021 event will not take place...

Quote:It is with great regret that we have to say there will not be a UKSF 2021.

Our original intention was to postpone it till October , but with the ongoing situation, we feel that there is not enough certainty to enable us to do this . The months of organising required and the reliance on so many of our international exhibitors means that we had to make a decision.

We appreciate and share the disappointment and if circumstances allow we will organise a Christmas Swap Meet  - Festive Slot at the Heritage Motor Centre.

Take care - Stay safe , and imagine how amazing UKSF 2022 will be .

SAL-171 Vauxhall Firenza 1973 Droopsnoot. Slot car body & chassis kit. £39 from George Turner Models.

As always, George Turner is having a busy start to the year, bring a number of new slot car kits into production. The first is this wonderful Vauxhall Firenza HP (High Performance) - as raced by the legendary Gerry Marshall and the works Dealer Team Vauxhall (DTV) with the 'droopsnoot' bodywork during 1974-5. The Firenza HP roadcar - of which only 204 were ever built - was based on the Magnum Coupé. Along with the distinctive aerodynamic nose, the HP was fitted with Vauxhall's first 5-speed gearbox and a bid 2.3-litre slant-four motor, tuned to produce an extra 21 bhp over the production engine. That gave the road car a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph.

The performance road car was inspired by the success of Marshall in a standard race-tuned Firenza - the 'dropsnoot' bodywork added to the DTV racer for the 1974 season. Marshall's car - named "The Old Nail" - took 66 race and class wins (3 for Bill Dryden) and four championship titles - the 1972 BARC Forward Trust Championship, class championships in the 1973 Forward Trust and 1974 Simoniz Saloon Car Championships and - for Bill Dryden - the 1975 Scottish Saloon Car Championship. Marshall's Firenza was exhibited for many years in the Donington Collection.

The George Turner Models kits contains:

  • Unpainted, resin body shell
  • Resin chassis with inline motor pod
  • Resin dashboard, bumpers, driver, headlights
  • Vac formed interior, windows, headlight covers
  • Decals
  • Screws
Wheel inserts are available seperately as PCS-1401 (£3.50 per set of 4)

George recommends the following running gear (not included in the kit)
  • Wheels and tyres: PCS Classic 15'' wheel set (Ref: PCS-WTP14)
  • Axles: 45mm 3/32
  • Motor: Standard S-Can (pinion on bell end)
  • Other parts: Guide, crown wheel, pinion, cable, braid, bearings
The initial kits include a generic decal sheet, but George is hoping for period decals to become available - I'm pretty certain these will include the Gerry Marshall DTV car.

The model should be pretty handy on the track with a wheelbase of 78mm and potential rear track of 56mm (the scale width would be 51.3mm).

Although featuring mostly the V8 "Baby Bertha" and production Magnums, this Vauxhall documentary gives a wonderful flavour of the era and of Gerry Marshall in his prime...

Fans of 1970s saloon car racing are just going to have to get one (or two) of these classic cars Thumbup

I'm new so Hi All!

Just got into Scalextric with my young daughters. We have recently bought a 2nd hand "Digital Ignition" set which included 2 Nissan 350z cars. the track and cars look immaculate!

However when racing them we noticed they are quite slippy and dont grip the track as good as the exisitng Mini Coopers we usually race. Upon looking at the underneath of the 350z cars they both have 2 gaps where it looks liek magnets should be? See pic.

Does anyone know if these cars originally came with magnets and am i able to buy some aftermarket magnets to fit?

I understand some purists will say not to bother with magnets but when racing with my young daughters it is just easier! haha. As we get older we may decide to go magent free.

Any help appreciated!

I have just bought a mini tripod for my camera. LINK
It is a good solid bit of kit and I am happy with the transaction but I really don't understand how people make a profit on the item. It cost £2.99 all in and was sent 1st class Royal Mail. The postage alone would have cost £1.29, add on eBay/PayPal fees and there surely must be next to nothing left for the seller.
I am not complaining - just puzzled.

Today is ten days since we signed the sales papers for our house. This means the cooling off period is over so it's gorn! With another lockdown period imminent here, it probably means we won't be able to travel north to find somewhere to live. No panic then.

The real horror is that we have to do a bit of electrical tidying up before we go and that will mean work to the wall covered by the track! It's already covered with dust because of the other clearing up I've been doing in the room so no grip but it's going to have to come out!

I have not been looking forward to this. As it is slot cars are way down the list of to do's right now but this really brings it all home (or what was home). We have already emptied the house from the top and all our worldly possessions are progressing towards the ground floor. Why do we carry so much junk around? Minimalism beckons.

As the move is scheduled for around the same time as Bordo, I'm going to be extremely pissed off this year.
