AMT makes a nice looking static kit of a 63-split window Corvette Stingray. I've always wanted a lil' red Corvette. These kits don't have a lot of chassis detail. They are a great choice to convert into a slot car.

Motor choices. Fast or slow? I went with the fast one.  Dirtbike

Factory stock wheel inserts from the kit did not look very nice. A change had to be made.

This was one of my first builds. It's loaded with mistakes. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

Thank you very kindly for looking.

Evening all

Finally, I’ve sort of finished one of the die cast conversions I have in the go.

Still debating whether to try and get some sort of camper interior into it, may just leave it as is

Used a PCS 32 chassis with a s-can motor, set of Calibra wheels (which look like the BBS I had on a 1:1 16v MK2 Golf back in the day)

It weighs a ton (nearly 300g) but flies down the small track I tested it on, when it hits a skirting board, the skirting board will lose!!

Hi guys! Wow what a great GT3 Proxy season we are having....so many great cars and competitive! OK so here is your opportunity to pre-register for the 2022 "Championship Proxy" GT3 series.

Recap:

The top 16 finishers from the current series + any previous series champion will have a reserved spot in the series. Please note that if car "x" finishes this year in position 11 (which means that it is eligible for the 2022 series) but decides not to enter, then it does not mean car in position 17 moves up, it only means that there is an additional spot available in the 27 car field.

If we receive more than 27 cars at the deadline, then there will be a "shootout" to determine who makes it into the 27 car field. Cars that do not make it into the field will be returned, entry fee will be refunded minus the return shipping fee. I will do my best to provide feedback on these cars to ensure that there is somewhat of a learning experience for all entrants.

Since we do not know for sure who will make this year's top 16, I will ask that all interested builders post their intention to race below. Entry fee will be $27 USD (registration and payment deadline will be August 31st). Deadline for the cars to be at the MID-BC track in Kelowna, BC will be November 12th, 2021. The qualifying shootout will be broadcast on YouTube within the week of receiving all the cars.

* All international and domestic entrants that need to mail their cars will have a deadline of Monday November 1st to have their packages postmarked. This will eliminate the guesswork of shipping in today's world thus no need for some entrants to ship their cars a month or longer ahead of time. All other cars postmarked after November 1st or hand delivered must be delivered by November 12th without penalty.

PayPal information will be posted here at a later date.

The Shootout, Round 0 and Post Series Technical "Under the Hood" videos will occur at the MID-BC track.

The returning Champion own's car #1 (if they want this number!) and all previous season's 27 entrants have first right of refusal on their car number.

2) Final list of Eligible Cars
3) Host Guidelines - current and applicable to all events under the "Championship Proxy Events" Banner (GT3, Group 5 and World Championship)

As promised, the 2022 Scalextric Club car was announced in UK Slot Car Festival week. Sadly, we didn't get to inspect it up close at Gaydon, but here it - the MCD Ford Escort RS1800 'Black Beauty' as driven by Ari Vatanen on the 1982 Manx Rally. Those hints from the Scalextric team - of a short-term solution for rally fans - now make perfect sense!

Ari Vatanen had won the 1981 World Rally Champion driving an Escort for the privateer Rothmans Rally Team - albeit with heavy factory support from Boreham. Ford withdrew in 1982 and Vatanen - still under contract - was left without a drive in the WRC and unable to defend his crown. Instead he competed in the British Open Rally Championship, driving the MCD-prepared Escort alongside Phil Short for the first two events and then Terry Harryman for the final three - the Manx being their final outing...

Vatanen thrilled crowds and gained huge respect throwing the out-classed Escort around the forests and roads of the British Isles. Eventual champion Jimmy McRae has this to say in AutoSport...

Quote:Put simply, Ari is the quickest bravest rally driver there is. The press wrote off the Escort, but it can still be a competitive car and if Ari is in a good mood - or if his wife has just had a baby and he is on cloud nine - there is no touching him. I don't think there is an Escort that has ever, ever gone as quick as Ari did on the Manx. OK it ended in an accident but the way he motored that car was mind boggling.

Widnes-based MCD Services prepared Vatanen's Escort for the British Open Championship, with cars and parts from the Boreham stores. Pirelli supplied the tyres and the 2 litre BDA engines were taken care of by David Wild in Essex. In Vatanen's hands, the RS1800 had a fine final season - competing for podiums throughout the year, including an astonishing second place at the Swedish Rally in a David Sutton RS1800. By why did Vatanen stick with Ford? Well, there was a sense of loyalty - and the promise of a new world-beating Group B Escort under development. Alas that project collapsed and Vatanen moved to Opel, starting with the 1982 RAC.

The Scalextric Mk2 Escort is a bit of an ugly thing in my eyes - especially compared to the SCX model of the earlier 1975-79 RS1800 rally cars. However, the 81 and 82 Escorts looked slightly more 'boxy' and have pronounced flared rear wheel arches that matches the Scalextric car's shape quite well. The 3D rendered image shows a 'FORD' badge on the front, rather than the blue oval - and only the top pair of auxiliary lights are necessary for the Manx car. God-forbid, this really needs to be a left-hand drive Escort for Ari, with Harryman sitting on the right. But overall, I'm delighted - not perfect, but it's Ari Vatanen's Black Beauty.

The only way to nab your Escort is to pay out £40 to join the Scalextric Club: scalextric.com/community/scalextric-club  There is an Rest of the World (ROW) option for £56, but no EU membership at the moment - although hopefully this will change sooner rather than later. I guess there's always the option of using a UK address.

This is what you get...

  • A Club exclusive slot car and 2022 catalogue (dispatched January 2022)
  • 10% discount on cars and accessories at uk.scalextric.com (only on UK website)
  • Exclusive slot cars throughout the year.
  • A welcome note and regular product updates sent via email, plus competitions throughout the year.

Well, that's me successfully renewed for another year and waiting patiently for January. In the meantime, here's the ITV coverage of the 1982 Manx Rally - over to you Dickie Davies...

Slot.it CW24 Porsche 956C LH #3 Le Mans 1983 - Le Mans Winner Collection Limited Edition. RRP £69.95. Release date: 24 May

Slot.it built their reputation with these truly exceptional Group C models - and they still look and perform wonderfully. New evolution chassis, new components and lighter bodies all contribute to making the latest releases even better on track, but the basics remain the same: high-performance slot cars that recreate the awesome spectacle of 1980s Group C grids. And that means a lot of Porsches...

This latest 956 release is part of Slot.it's Le Mans Winner Collection - the car will be packaged in their characteristic orange collectors' display box.

1983 was the height of Porsche's powers at La Sarthe - the 956 was now a customer car and despite Lancia's best efforts with their new LC2, Porsches dominated the entry list for Group C and would dominate the race...

Three Rothmans-sponsored works 956s were entered and they were - of course - the fastest of the bunch. However, the lead works car of Mass, Bellof and Barth was already ailing when its engine blew in the 22nd hour. That left the sister cars of Holbert-Haywood-Schuppan and Ickx-Bell out front. Both cars had been in the wars...

Journalist Brian Laban summed it up nicely in his history of Le Mans...

Quote:Their problems balanced out: the winner had lost a door, lost oil pressure, and had finally lost its engine just yards after the finish; the second car (which Ickx started from pole) had hit one of the private 956's on the Mulsanne on the second lap, was delayed by electrical problems out on the circuit on Sunday morning, and with fuel restrictions could never push quite hard enough to make up, by barely a minute.

In fact, Holbert nearly didn't make it to the end. He had to re-fire the engine on the final lap, with Bell having un-lapped himself just before. The timekeepers scored the gap at just 17 seconds, the #3 Porsche limping over the line with ominous  smoke trailing behind...

It was a second Le Mans win for Hurley Haywood and a first for American Al Holbert and Australian Vern Schuppan. Both Haywood and Holbert would go on to win the 24 hours three times. Behind them, the top eight cars were Porsche 956s.

Here's a cracking short film of the car as it is today, with snippets of Hayward speaking and footage of the 1983 race...

The Slot.it car is a must-have in my book. The 1983 race was one I followed very closely as a teenager and I have the event poster on my office wall. The model looks wonderful in these latest pictures sent to us by Galileo Engineering...

Under the body is the usual inline set-up with plastic front wheels and aluminium rears...

The car is fitted with the new SISP44 connectors to make the SP43 and SP15B digital chips plug-and-play.

This Le Mans winner will be with retailers in the next week or two and is available for pre-order at Pendle Slot Racing now.

Molte grazie to Jo at Galileo Engineering for sending us these great photographs.
