The UK Autumn Nationals are race #3 of our 2021-22 UK HO Drag Proxy Series... All the dates, regulations and format are in the 'UK HO Drag Proxy Series 2021-22 Preview' thread here.

This race takes place over the weekend of 4 & 5 of September, with presentations - and Micro Scalextric qualifying - on the Friday evening. All the classes will run - and both our regular match-racing classes will have their own qualification and elimination format this time. If you have anything interesting to send for an exhibition run, please send it!

The Track: The Rock County Eighth Mile is a seven-foot timed strip (1/8 mile in true HO scale) made from the new 2019 Micro Scalextric sectional track. Cars must be fitted with braids to run on this track. Power is set at 12 volts and 8 amps across the two lanes. Power to both lanes is triggered by a single switch firing a relay board. Timing is currently Trackmate Drag Basic, with Drag RC being prepared for introduction in 2022. After the finish line, there is a two-foot shutdown with dynamic braking and a well-padded catch box.

The Format: The weekday events see qualifying take place on the Tuesday and all the racing on the Wednesday afternoon and evening. The weekend 'nationals' have racing through both days, usually with the elimination rounds following on from qualifying for that class.

Sending cars: Aim for your cars to arrive in Brighton at least 72 hours before the first day of the event,  so they can be quarantined (if necessary) and then registered for qualifying. Please also pack in a small box (max height 7.5cm if possible) and pay for your postage online so no-one needs to go near a post office. These races are designed to be Covid-safe events that are accessible to everyone and can continue whatever restrictions might be in place. You may - of course - send cars for several races or the full duration of the series  - just let me know.

How to enter: Send me a private message or add a reply below. One car per class may be entered per person. Family members and friends are very welcome to enter too. I will message you with the address to send cars to. You will need to pay for return postage. Otherwise there is no race fee.

Overseas entrants must talk to me about customs forms on their parcels! The recipient (me) will normally be charged 20% of the stated value of the parcel, plus an £8 handling fee. As cars sent to these races are not commercial goods, I need to explain how to alert UK customs to this fact and avoid the fees.

Looking ahead to some rally driving over the winter, I have acquired a couple of 4WD rally cars. So primary drive to the rear wheels, belt drive to the front.

Any tips for setting up the tyres, e.g. balancing the grip levels front vs rear? Or is it simply a case of max grip all round?

Any tips for initial weight balance front to rear?

Any argument for removing the belt and just running 2WD at the rear?

Thanks in advance...

You really couldn't make this stuff up!
The Yorkshire delicacy, parkin, a cake made with ginger and treacle is being investigated over its links with slavery by Leeds city council. A council document claims some of the ingredients (i.e. sugar and treacle) used to make this local product were gained through the triangular slave trade. They are also investigating Yorkshire Tea's links with colonialism. Good job Rowntree's moved out of the county or Kit Kat and Yorkie bars would be next for the chop.

Moving across the channel to Euroland: The European Court of Justice has just decreed that the the 'working time directive' which limits worker's hours etc, applies to the armed forces as well as ordinary employees. Apparently EU forces are now subject to 'individual timekeeping, severe limitations on night work, precise calculation of time off and 11 hour daily rest time. Best of luck with that when the Russian tanks roll over the border!

It seems that April 1st now occurs every day!

Just interested to hear what are everyone's typical new motor setup regime is?

In the past, I've just boshed it into the recipient car.  Occasionally I have tried to run it in a little (constant low-mid revs for 30mins-1hr; although invariably this time is dramatically reduced due to boredom or having to do something else).

Heard that initial brief run in in water (distilled I assume) is the way to go.  What's everyone's preferred method?

I made a few posts here more than a year ago. Better late than never, I say!

Partly for sentimental reasons, I have stuck to the old slot forum so far. It was the place that got me started with this hobby and from which I have learned a lot from older threads.

But since the Big Time Operators have taken over it is not funny anymore. Nuff said... Maybe you, who started this forum saw it coming?

My main approach to this hobby is building my own wood bodies, often with a wooden chassis as well. Some of you know me already. Here are some pics for those who don't.

If I should make anything worth showing it will turn up here.

Cheers

So I want to paint the front half of one white kit 'black', and a second white kit 'white'. The simplest thing for me to do is to pop round to my local Halfords and buy some spray cans. So what do I need...

Primer...'plastic' primer rather than one for 'bare metal'?

Primer...grey to suit both finish colours, or white to suit the lightest?

Top coats...anyone got a favourite 'black', anyone got a favourite 'white'?

Cheers!

RevoSlot RS0104 Porsche 911 GT1 #6 'Pennzoil G-Force Motorsport' British GT Championship, Spa 1999 - Nigel Barrett & John Morrison. RRP £71.95.
RevoSlot RS0105 Porsche 911 GT1 Blue Coral & Pennzoil Twin Pack. RRP £143.95.

Revoslot have another pair of tasty liveries coming soon on their Porsche 991 GT1. This time, they are from the 1999 British GT Championship - specifically, the tenth round at Spa-Francorchamps...

The blue #5 car - entered by Blue Coral Slick 50 Racing - was driven all season by Magnus Wallinder & Geoff Lister and won both races at Silverstone. The pair took pole position at Spa, but could only manage third in the race. They finished 45 seconds adrift of an exciting battle between the Sintura S99 and Newcastle United Lister Storm.

The yellow #6 entry saw series regular John Morrison joined by Nigel Barrett for his single outing in the Porsche. The G-Force Motorsport entry qualified fifth and finished fifth...

Back in 1999, Channel 4 aired highlights of each British GT Championship round, hosted by Amanda Stretton. This is the programme from the Spa race...

A sting in the tail of an exciting race - with a large, diverse and colourful grid. Some of those cars have already been produced by Revoslot - and there's a few more they could still add to their wonderful 1990s GT range.

Inside the Porsches is the usual Revoslot layout, including an aluminium chassis and high quality BRM parts.

These British GT Championship Porsche 911 GT1s were scheduled for release this month and can be pre-ordered now at Pendle Slot Racing here.

Thanks to the team at Pendle for the pictures and release info.
