The Lotus 63 was an experimental F1 car, designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe for the 1969 season. Chapman's reasoning behind the car was that the 3 litre engines introduced in 1966 would be better served by building a car that could take full advantage of its power while retaining the Lotus 49's simplicity.

Like theLotus 56 for the Indy 500 (and later F1), the 63 chassis was designed around a 4wd system. This was not totally revolutionary at the time, as four wheel drive had been used on the Fergusson F1 car that won atOulton Park as early as 1961, but with little development thereafter. However, it was not a successful design. In fact, the Matra MS 84 was the only 4WD F1 which scored points (driven byJohnny Servoz Gavin, at the 1969 Canadian GP) something neither Lotus nor Mclaren managed, while Cosworth did not even race their 4WD design. The 63 was an evolution of the 49, but featured wedge shaped rear bodywork and integrated wings, which would be used to great effect in the Lotus 72.

The car was entered at the 1969 British Grand Prix as a test run. Whilst Rindt finished fourth in the older 49 behindJackie Stewart after running short of fuel whilst leading, Miles could only bring the 63 home in 10th place, confirming the car's uncompetitiveness. After several other fruitless outings, the 63 was abandoned, but parts of the chassis design were worked into theLotus 72, which debuted in 1970.

The four wheel drive technology returned into F1 with the Lotus 56B in 1971.
Like the Lotus 88 , the 4WD cars proved to be huge white elephants for Lotus, but it paved the way for better models to follow.

The model is based on the Betta and classic Fibreglass body:

This is a wonderful build by a friend from Chech Rep - workmanship is sublime.

Watched a video about rebuilding the 440 motor and they talked about taking up the slop between the bulkheads. Armature looks like it's got a little over 1/16 of an inch play in it. What ids going on? The guy fixed his with a .010 spacer. I don't have that many!.

There was some mention of these "Scalex43" sets that Scalextric UK produce for the Australian market.  I just noticed that some have  surfaced in the UK at Time Tunnel Models.
My connection with TTM is purely as a paying customer, but as they are my Local Hobby Shop its sensible that I that I support them with a mention.

The things that pop up out of nowhere, this is one that should help those with scenic tracks, or not.

Three new-for-2021 1:43 scale SCX Compact sets have just arrived in the UK - two GT-themed and one Rally Cross. Two of the sets also feature wireless hand controllers. The box art I've used is with the Spanish Scalextric branding - UK releases will have SCX Compact on the packaging.

SCX Compact C10306 Crazy Rally Starter Set. RRP £89.95. Available now

Featuring two Audi S1 WRX cars, 6.7 metres of track - including a pair of loops - plus two wireless controllers and a UK power supply, this should be a lot of fun!

This next one is the set I've had my eye on...

SCX Compact C10305 Sport GT Starter Set. RRP £69.95. Available now

Two very nice GT3 cars, 4.4 metres of track - including wider radius curve pieces - plus the wireless controllers and UK power supply. There range of Compact GT3 cars is good (and due to grow in 2021), so this is definitely one for GT fans of all ages.

The final set is more basic...

SCX Compact C10306 Speed Masters Starter Set. RRP £49.95. Available now

The listings in the UK and Spain agree on a 3.66 metre track length, but not on whether the controllers are wired or wireless. In Spain, this set will have standard wired controllers. If you're interested in a cheap wireless upgrade, I'd recommend contacting Gaugemaster and ask them to check inside the box. The two Porsche 911s are an old - but timeless - mould and both feature real racing liveries...

It's worth mentioning that all the cars  in these three sets will be available separately - the UK RRP is £15.50 for each.

Thanks to Terry and the team at Gaugemaster for the heads up Thumbup

Racers, now that the registration is closed here is how we stack up for the 2022 season. In a nutshell, 44 total entrants....27 spots available.

Recap:

The top 16 finishers from the current series + any previous series champion will have a reserved spot in the series. Please note that if car "x" finishes this year in position 11 (which means that it is eligible for the 2022 series) but decides not to enter, then it does not mean car in position 17 moves up, it only means that there is an additional spot available in the 27 car field.

If we receive more than 27 cars at the deadline, then there will be a "shootout" to determine who makes it into the 27 car field. Cars that do not make it into the field will be returned, entry fee will be refunded minus the return shipping fee. I will do my best to provide feedback on these cars to ensure that there is somewhat of a learning experience for all entrants.

Here is the two lists of entrants. This is going to be a heck of a shootout.....plus a very very competitive 2022 Series afterwards!

This shoot out will be bigger than the OK Corral, bigger than any Fast and the Furious premier (OK bad choice!!)!!!.....when do the Vegas odds come out!??! Did somebody say video!??!! Prime time event! World wide viewing!

Good Morning!
Have just joined here a few days ago & not very good at introductions, but here we go!
I'm based in East Devon UK, having moved there 2 1/2 years ago (work relocation) from Hampshire UK.
Just before lockdown, I discovered East Devon Slot Racing Club (EDSRC), just in time for it to close for lockdown.
The club reopened recently and I'm now enjoying racing (as a total novice of coarse) with those guys, who I have to say are very friendly and helpful!
Planning on building a wooden track at home shortly, so will be selling off all of my old 'classic track & contollers' etc, should anyone be interested?
Also selling off a few cars at the moment, see the buying/selling section of the forum.
That's about it from me!
Cheers, Steve.
