Had a fantastic day at the Goodwood Revival today.  Hot, but some outstanding cars and drivers,  and the usual amazing attention to detail which makes the Revival so special.   Thoroughly looking forward to the next two days!

On a slot car perspective......

Magnetic racing are present with a good looking rally layout,  as part of their ongoing promotional work with Swiss Tourism. 

And for the first time the ever friendly Tim, from Weevils Slot cars has a stand.  I used to race bangers with Tim, on the tracks of Spedeworth Motorsports.  A stand at Goodwood is a serious investment,  hope he does well.

If you are going to be there over the weekend both stands are to be found in the "Over the road" trade area. 
Make sure to pay them a visit.

We're back at the Barn for our September HO Formula One race. This year, we've been picking some of our favourite layouts from the WHO archives - and we return to the Zandvoort-ish track from last autumn...

   

As always, doors open at 6.30pm for practice, heats start at 7 and we aim for the step-up finals to be all over by 9.30. Entry is £3 adults / £2 under-16s and we ask that racers younger than fourteen bring a responsible adult with them. Club cars and controllers are available for no extra cost.

September has seen the introduction of a new class at Viking SCC in the form of Scalextric GT3.  Thanks to recent offerings from Scalextric, there is quite a range to choose from and week 1 didn't disappoint with a range of manufacturers and liveries on display.  The class is intended to be as accessible as possible for members new and old, so cars remain stock (with the exception of free choice of braid), and are run using club supplied control tyres (Slot It G25 1171).  

Racing was surprisingly tense and very entertaining with close battles up and down the grid.  And despite the variations in proportions of the BMW Z4's, Corvettes, AMG's and Aston's, there was a good parity between the cars around the twists of the Viking Policar track.

   

   

   

   

For me this has been a fantastic year. Ever since my visit to Le Mans  in 2001,2,3, I have been in love with the race and cars.

As you will all know I am a Tifosi through and through and so was over the moon when Ferrari entered the top league of the race.

A friend has made some superb 1/32nd prints of the 2023 cars, and very kindly agreed to send me some prints. ( no he does not sell then as I assume he uses files from the net and thus does not want to upset the file creators - before you ask :) )

I have started to work on the bodies and thought I would put them up in one thread as I go through the process - if you are at all interested



So this is what I saw and he sent me:

Ferrari 499, Porsche 963, Cadillac, Peugeot and from IMSA the BMW (at le mans next year)

       


                       


I started with the Ferrari and Porsche (for the porche I will do 2 versions - factory and Hertz entry).


           


Managed to source decals for all the cars from Le Mans Decals, and Pattos - all on their way to me.
The chassis all need SLot.it inline motor pods with flat 6 motors - these I still need to source and order.

I am planning on getting into the hobby and after a lot of deliberating have settled on Carrera digital track because I like the idea of being able to run 1:24 if I choose.

I have been looking at Oxigen and Scorpius for later down the road as options for a more robust home setup and am wondering if any of you have opinions on which system would be a better investment. What interests me is ghost cars, pit lane speeds-- which system is more robust and will give me the least amount of headaches?

An additional question I have: I don't really want to invest in Carrera wireless controllers because I plan on eventually incorporating one of these systems. From this angle, it seems like it's a better option to go wired and add the wireless receiver when I'm ready to buy into either the Oxigen or Scorpius. 

Can any of you seasoned hobbyists weigh in? What's the most cost-effective way of doing this? I hope my questions make sense and am eager to hear your insight.
